Publication Adaptation and validation of the gratitude questionnaire GQ-6 for the ecuadorian context(2019) Cabrera Vélez, María Marcela; Lima Castro, Sandra Eugenia; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Aguilar Sizer, Mónica Elisa; Bueno Pacheco, Gladys Alexandra; Arias Medina, William PaúlThis paper evaluates the factor structure, reliability and validity of the gratitude scale (GQ-6) of McCullough, Emmons and Tsang (2002) and the five-item version proposed by Chen et al. (2009). Results of a sample of 1112 adults show that the fiveitem version has excellent internal consistency (α=.926; ω=.891; GLB=.913); high and significant factor loadings (greater than .8; p<.01), and excellent goodness of fit indexes (χ²(5)=23.837, p<.001; CFI=.997; TLI=.995; RMSEA=.082, p=.045; SRMSR=.035; WRMSR=.837). The criterion validity was evaluated applying subscales of the PERMA-Profiler: positive emotions (ρ=.5702, p=.021) and negative emotions (ρ=-.1786, p=.0316). Finally, we find psychometric equivalence between the sex of the participants. In conclusion, the five-item questionnaire is valid and reliable in the Ecuadorian context. Keywords: Gratitude questionnaire; psychometric properties; adaptation; wellbeing; validationPublication Cuentos para sanar: aplicación clínica de la técnica narrativa al bienestar(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018) Lima Castro, Sandra Eugenia; Cabrera Vélez, María Marcela; Bueno Pacheco, Gladys Alexandra; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Aguilar Sizer, Mónica Elisa; Zamora Bautista, Esther Carolina; Trelles Calle, Daniel Edmundo; Patiño Torres, Tatiana Leonor; Meneses Palomeque, Bruno Javier; Arcentales Cayamcela, Nube TráncitoPublication Health-Related Quality of Life and Associated Variables in People With Physical Disabilities(2024) Lima Castro, Sandra EugeniaBackground/objective: Despite the potential impact of a physical disability on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), few methodologically rigorous investigations on the topic have been conducted. The objective of this study was to determine the potential impact of HRQoL and associated factors in people with physical disabilities. Methods: The participants were 479 people with physical disabilities (56.8% women, mean age = 52.3 years). HRQoL domains (i.e., physical health, psychological health, social relationships and environment) were assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF); as well as the sociodemographic, disability, and clinical variables. Results: The predictors for the various domains were as follows: physical domain: ethnicity, employment status, medication use, depression, reward, extraversion, and psychoticism; psychological domain: employment status, anxiety, depression, and purpose; social relations domain: employment status, depression, reward, neuroticism, social support, empowerment, optimism and self-esteem; and environment domain: monthly economic income, depression, reward, neuroticism, extraversion, rational problem-solving skills, social support, and empowerment. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need to develop evidence-based programs to promote HRQoL in this population that address the specific predictors within each domain, reduce symptomatology predictive of worse HRQoL; and increase psychological and social resources to better support HRQoL.Publication Reliability and validity of the mental health continuum (MHC-SF) in the ecuadorian contexts(2017) Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Lima Castro, Sandra Eugenia; Bueno Pacheco, Gladys Alexandra; Aguilar Sizer, Mónica Elisa; Lee m Keyes, Corey; Arias Medina, William PaúlAbstract: Health Continuum (MHC-SF) of Keyes (2009) in the Ecuadorian context. The scale was applied to two samples, one of 100 people that worked as a pilot and another of 550 people resident in the city of Cuenca-Ecuador, who also were applied an adaptation of the PERMA Profile of Butler and Kern (2016) to verify the convergent and discriminant validity. It was observed that the application in this population presents adequate levels of adjustment and high internal consistency (α=.91) and an adequate general adjustment of the structure of three factors: psychological well-being, social welfare and emotional well-being proposed by the author whose main fit values are RMSEA= .045, CFI= .996, χ2(52)= 109.048 (p= .000), GFI= .997 y TLI= 0.993. The bifactor model presents good values as well: RMSEA= .042, CFI= .996, χ2(52) = 103.040 (p= .000), GFI= .997, TLI= 0.993. We conclude that the Spanish version of MHC-SF (Keyes, 2009) and the bifactor model are appropriate tools to measure mental health in the Ecuadorian contextPublication Approach to a wellbeing model in ecuadorian adults(2019) Aguilar Sizer, Mónica Elisa; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Arias Medina, William Paúl; Bueno Pacheco, Alexandra Elizabeth; Lima Castro, Sandra EugeniaThe aim of this study was to propose and evaluate a structural model that explains well-being as a synonym of positive mental health in Ecuadorians, taking into consideration a group of associated psychosocial variables evaluated through questionnaires. The sample included 1064 adults, inhabitants of Cuenca-Ecuador. The results were analysed with the software SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 23.0, using the generalized least squares method. Partial models were tested, the most satisfactory structural adjustment model obtained the following results; GFI=.91; AGFI=.90; RMR=.205; RMSEA=.041; CFI=.90. Three factors are included in the structure (Purpose, Positive Relationships and Growth), as well as the social well-being dimension. Self-assessment of health, self-efficacy and gratitude are important predictors of mental health while the increase of negative emotions showed a negative effect.Publication Calidad de vida y variables asociadas: reflexiones, concepciones teóricas y los desafíos de su evaluación(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020) Lima Castro, Sandra Eugenia; Bueno Pacheco, Gladys Alexandra; Arias Medina, William Paúl; Aguilar Sizer, Mónica Elisa; Cabrera Vélez, María Marcela; Cordero Hermida, María Fernanda; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Racines Jerves, Daniel AndrésPublication Adaptación del perfil PERMA en una muestra ecuatoriana(2017) Lima Castro, Sandra Eugenia; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina; Cedillo Quizhpe, Isabel Cristina; Cabrera Vélez, María MarcelaThe PERMA profile scale of Butler and Kern (2016) was adapted to be used in Ecuador. This scale is based on Seligman's (2011) well-being theory. In order to obtain the Ecuadorian version the translation-back translation method was used. The final version, was applied to a sample of 1,247 adults between 18 and 89 years who live in Cuenca, Ecuador. The discrimination capacity of the items, their reliability and factor structure were studied. The internal consistency (α = .911) for the total scale was high, a three factor structure was obtained that differs from the original version which explains 62.99% of the variance, with an acceptable general adjustment is reported with values of χ2 [A1] /gl=196.24/63=3.1, CFI = .99, RMSEA = .047, SRMR = 0.0252. In conclusion, the PERMA profile is a useful instrument to evaluate the well-being of Ecuadorian adults.
