(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-07) Ruiz Porras, Antonio
We show an introduction to the history of panel-data econometrics, the most common models and their uses in the Mexican context. In the first part, we show the evolution of panel-data econometrics from the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twenty first one. In the second part, we describe the models with fixed, random and dynamic effects. In the subsequent parts, we show some trends regarding the studies that have used panel-data and regarding the use of the models in certain areas of knowledge (social sciences, macroeconomics, microeconomics, international economics, finance, public finance). We analyze these trends with the articles included in the REDALYC database for the period 2000-2013.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-07) Acosta González, Nicolás; Jaramillo Calderón, Daniel; Mejía Pesántez, Ramiro
This paper presents a theoretical and practical analysis of the economic dependence in Ecuador. Ecuadorian competition law lacks of a methodology to identify dependence among two undertakings. This research proposes a solution, which has been addressed from an exhaustive description of international regulations and comparative competition cases. The result of this analysis led to establish a three-step process. The first is to define the relevant market; the second, study the degree dependence; and the third, is to identify those signatures having a higher substitution cost. Subsequently, the methodology was applied in the distribution chain, where was possible to identify 321 dependent firms. Finally, by a model of binary response, the investigation exposes the factors that causes dependence; the main factors are: diversification and low value added in products.

(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-07) Cárdenas Jaramillo, Ramón Patricio; Roldán Monsalve, Diego Fernando
Since emergence of economic policy as a tool to stabilize and stimulate the economy, governments have realized the need to have the best staff available for the processes of formulation, implementation and evaluation of public policies. This entails an intense search primarily in the skilled labor market, which is expected to have significant impact in this sector. The present paper aims to show a link between the changes in the levels of employment and absorption of skilled labor for the civil service. The results suggest that there is a statistically significant impact of public hiring policy on levels of employment in the skilled labor market meanwhile not shows any effect on non-skilled labor market.
