Objetive. To determine the prevalence of gingival disease and to correlate it with the associated factors in school children aged 6 to 12 years in Cuenca-Ecuador. Methodology. A descriptive study was carried out on 208 children aged 6 to 12 years in the "José Maria Velasco Ibarra” school. Two examiners performed the dental examination, determining the index of gingival inflammation, index of oral hygiene and gingival bleeding index. Results. A 96.6% prevalence of gingival disease was observed, with mild and moderate degrees, the first being significantly higher (P <0.001). In addition it was observed that it increases the odds of having gingival disease in 3.42 with poor oral hygiene and in 2.15 with regular oral hygiene. Conclusion. A high prevalence of gingival disease was found in children aged 6 to 12 years, with the female gender being more affected and regular and poor oral hygiene was positively associated with the higher prevalence of gingival disease.

Fibrolipoma: reporte de un caso en labio superior y en paciente pediátrico
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015) Romero Espinoza, Katherine Andrea; Torres Calle, María Fernanda
Lipomas are benign tumors of adipose content, which rarely develop in the oral cavity. We present an unusual case of lip fibrolipoma in a pediatric patient and discuss the characteristics and etiopathogenesis of this entity.

    Electromiografía en odontología
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015) Bravo Torres, Wilson Daniel; Torres Robles, Allysson Abigail
The electromyography has been applied to dentistry since the 40’s as a diagnostic method of muscle disorders caused by cra- nial-cervical-faciaí disorders, temporo-mand¡bular disorders, and sleep disorders, among others. This tool provides us in-formation on the muscle electric potential (specially the masseter and temporal mus-cles) during jaw movements. The muscle hyperactivity predisposes the develop of temporomandibular disorders, pain and fatigue; causing discomfort ¡n patients, de creasing the ability of jaw movements and generating greater alteration in the stomatognathic system; for these reasons the dentist must make a correct clinical assess-ment of patients to determine if there are any symptoms for some muscular or neurological damage by electromyographic examination. This literatura review discusses the clinical and diagnostic uses of electromyography in dentistry, in especial by the rehabilitators who performed it for the neurophysiological evaluation of the chewing muscles both physiologically and pathologically.

The aim of the present study was to conduct a literature review of the composition, physical and mechanical properties of resin Bulk Fill and its true impact in dentistry. Literature from Medline database was used through your Pubmed search engine with the key words composite resin Bulk fill, physical properties, mechanical properties. The Bulk fill resins are compouns that allow monoincremental restoration of teeth in the posterior región in cavities up to 4mm deep, requiring only 10 seconds of polymerization, due to the incorporation of light sensitive filters and polymerization accelerators in its composition, which increases its effectiveness. Its physical and mechanical properties are similar to conventional resins and vary according to the manufacturar and fluidity of the resin.

Anatomía interna del incisivo central inferior mediante proceso de diafanización
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015) Espinoza, Ismael A.; Astudillo Ortíz, Esteban Andres; Ávila Carrasco, Jessica Maribel
Objective. To establish the internal anatomy of the lower central incisor in pieces extracted inside the Pucará canton, through the process of diaphanization. Materials and methods. Sixty lower central incisors obtained in the Pucará canton were examined, which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the present study. They were subjected to the process of diaphanization based on the protocol cited by Robertson and through placing Chinese ink was able to observe its internal root anatomy. Results. The 60 pieces obtained were examined, the presence of a second conduit existed in a 23.3%, also the difference existed according to the type of conduit according to the classification of Vertucci, 76.6% had type I configuration, 21.7% type III configuration and 1.7% type V configuration type V. Conclusions. The majority of dental pieces examined in this study correspond to a type I configuration, the second common anatomy is a type III configuration and the third is a type V configuration. The dental diaphanization technique allows us to observe the anatomy of root canals in a three-dimensional conserving the original shape of the roots. The lower central incisor can present great variety in its duct system, which should be considered by the professional.
