Item “Al patriotismo de las más sensibles”: Las mujeres y la independencia en la actual literatura ecuatoriana(Universidad de Cuenca, 2010) Riera Rodríguez, GloriaWithin the framework of celebrations of the Bicentenary of Independence my essay aims at the memory of contemporary events preserved in literature, focusing on how women who were in favour of the independence are remembered. My main thesis is that whenever social and political claims against the Spanish Empire arise, cultural demands towards the feminine appear at the same time. Two literary portraits will serve as examples: Manuela by Luis Zuñiga and Judith in Juan Valdano´s novel Mientras llega el día. As they are depicted as subversive women who fought for the independence, they are opposed to traditional patriarchal texts where they used to be suppressed. Now they have to be considered important in history which traditionally gave little attention to women´s deeds in such decisive times.Item Los amigos del genuis loci(Universidad de Cuenca, 2010) Páez Barrera, OswaldoTheorice and historice the concepts of genius loci (spirit of the place). Under the late capitalism the places dissapear, the critical theories reculate, the poetry languish. The capitalistic spaces get the deathly breath of the killing work, rejection to such situation reinvindicates spaces and memories, into actions that retake radical traditions. The situacionism is related with the search of the spirit of the place in this neoliberal crisis. The literary twist of the text, is a wink towards the value of individual narrations in the new conceptualizations related with the constitutional values of the new space and time of the multitude.Item Aproximación a las políticas de planificación y desarrollo en Ecuador y sus fundamentos sociales desde Azuay (1930-1960)(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Regalado, Juan FernandoPlanning and development policies are the means to understand the connections that are established among more specific processes of continuance and social changes, faced to deeper historical conditions. Some institutional frameworks, such as the Planning in the first half of the XX century, included deep social and cultural dimensions that require clarification. An approach to the developmental planning allows an understanding of the kind of realizations that the state reached, and the ways that the state sphere was produced from the interrelations of specific spaces in the country.Item Apuestas fundacionales en el campo de los estudios literarios hispanoamericanos(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Parra Triana, Clara MaríaWhen the Spanish American literary field was able to define an autonomous space within the aesthetics of the modernism, new problems were posed in the Spanish American intellectual space in the beginning of the XX century: How could the literary phenomenon be studied without breaking its aesthetic elaboration and its historical – cultural position? This question was the basis for the search that was started by the literary studies in Spanish America in order to define their own space by generating their own discourse; moreover, a space where their contribution to the humanities and to the intellectual Spanish American autonomy could be recognized. Thinkers as Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Alfonso Reyes and José Carlos Mariátegui contributed significantly to open this space, by integrating, in turn, historical and cultural problems as interpretative criteria to the literary phenomenon. In this paper, I propose to observe the critical, historical and cultural thinking which operated as a bet, so that the literary studies function as a specific field, open to the integration of current knowledge and debates.Item Las castas y la plebe: versiones y perversiones del indio en la narrativa colonial e hispanoamericana del dieciocho(Universidad de Cuenca, 2010) Hachim Lara, LuisIn the delegation of the colonial power on the part of the Spaniards to the American or Creole Spaniards, the episteme and the axes of the crisis were transferred from the colonial system to the “colonialidad”. In this context, those with authority (Spaniards, Americans and subordinate Spaniards of the different agencies) in America assumed the conflict, and they even contributed to the diagnosis, but they confirmed the outcasting of the populace. The Creole power in the colonialidad reproduces the agreements and disagreements regarding the “alteridad”. In this sense, it would be to establish the position of the Spanish authorities’ power comparatively, of American or Creole Spanish, and even of the mestizo in front of the Indian and of the plebeian fellow.Item César Dávila Andrade: el resplandor del abismo(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Vintimilla, María AugustaThis essay is a reading of the poetry of César Dávila Andrade, proposing some interpretative keys to approach to the intensely, strange and powerful poetic work of one of the greatest poets of Latin America, and yet very little known. Reading addresses this singular poetic adventure as a bold attempt to reach absolute knowledge, full enlightenment, which eventually destroy the possibility of meaning and precipitate into the abyss of silence and nothingness. However, the paper shows the deep rooting of this poetry in the material world, body and language.Item Lo claro y distinto en el discurso histórico del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega(Universidad de Cuenca, 2010) León Pesántez, Catalina SoledadThis work studies the influence of the neoplatonism in the thought of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. In this way, we have taken two fundamental ideas exposed in the Comentarios Reales: writing clear and distinctly, and the pretense of truth in history. We have tried to analyze them in the horizon of the platonic hermeneutics but, at the same time, outlining their difference, as long as Garcilaso has his peculiar vision of the essences, the same ones that are not solved in the primate of eidos, but in his conflicting relationship with the empiric thing; from there the importance of knowledge of History.Item La cuestión del sujeto y la teoría del reconocimiento desde la perspectiva crítica de la filosofía latinoamericana(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Ramaglia, DanteThe reflection focused on the subject constitutes a relevant topic in contemporary Philosophy. When considering the implications that are art of the problem of the subject that is assumed by the critical Latin to the systemic and exclusive trends that entail the effects of the present globalization. At the same time, it implies the confrontation with theoretical paradigms that question the category of the subject from different positions. One of the features that is stressed in order to reformulate the topic of the subject refers to one's projections in connection to the recognition theory that concentrates an increasing attention from the perspective of different current approaches. These have effects in the social, political and ethical field.Item De Toussaint Louverture a Joseph-Anténor Firmin. Dos expresiones de la lucha por la libertad y la igualdad en Haiti(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Arpini, AdrianaThe perspective of the philosophical ideas of history allows us to analyze two events in the struggle for liberty and equality in Haiti. The first focuses on the image of Toussaint Louverture and is based on two key documents that helps to understand his thoughts: the first known as the Constitution that he commissioned in 1801 to bring order to the life and economic output of Sain Domingue; the second was Toussaint Louverture´s Memories written by Louverture himself and first published in 1853 by M. Saint Remi. The second event focuses on both Joseph-Anténor Firmin as a central image and his work About the equality of human races, which refutes Count de Gobineau´s racist thesis.Item Del investigador social al ciudadano real: la difusión como enlace y problematización de las ciencias sociales(Universidad de Cuenca, 2011) Riera Rodríguez, GloriaMy paper is inserted into the questioning and the debate to which the Social Sciences have been submitted during the last years, and it has a specific focus: the diffusion of social knowledge. To explain this, I start with a brief review of the origin of Social Sciences, in order to make it evident that since the very beginning, the scientific theories and contributions of the social scientist have been the product of control policies that have been directed to what investigate, who write for, and how much to diffuse. Then after, it takes hold of school, main transmitter of social knowledge, as the place where the fragmentation of the social theory that gets there, is exhibited.Item Derechos Humanos y literatura(Universidad de Cuenca, 2011) Maíz, ClaudioIn this paper, we intend to establish a correlation between the universal idea of Human Rights and the literary discourses. In both fields, the permanent dichotomy modes of focusing them interact, that is, the abstract terminology and the local realities. The human rights within the Latin-American and world literature in general have a conflictive expression about the declarative spirit inherent to the discourse on rights.Item El fonema /s/, ¿sordo o sonoro? Un estudio de dos dialectos ecuatorianos(2010) Calle Calle, Ana MaríaThis paper studies a phonological feature of two dialects used by the people of Quito and Cuenca. According to Robinson, there are three envi-ronments where /s/ is voiced in the dialect of Cuenca while it is voiced in two environments in the dialect of Quito. This paper determines whether these differences are still taking place or not. Six subjects from each city participated. Results indicate a tendency by the dialect of Quito to devoice this phoneme in all environments reported by Robinson. Further research needs to be done due to data limitations.Item Epistemología y ciencias sociales(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Guyot, VioletaThe research on the practices of knowledge is in full development within the different fields of knowledge in local and regional contexts in our country. A collaborative work with the different individuals that carry it out has allowed us to collect evidence regarding several hypotheses. The heuristic potential of the complex model permits to display a set of research strategies in the area of the social sciences, in the production of projects in the field of teaching, research and professional work that will transform the specific practices in agreement with the demands that were set out for specific problems by individuals or groups.Item Esencialismo, especies y géneros naturales(Universidad de Cuenca, 2010) Torres Meléndez, JulioThis paper aims at stating the range of the various possible responses regarding the nature of natural kinds, especially considering the cases of biological species. I will put forward the existence of a philosophically significant convergence between two of these responses that initially appear as inconsistent. I will describe this convergence in terms of a cooccurrence of epistemic values (Ruse, 1999), that is, in terms of a coincidence with those theory features that are of interest to us because of their significance to scientific explanation.Item Las fracturas del tiempo(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Rojas Reyes, CarlosThis paper analyzes the limits of the capitalist society and mainly focuses on the composition of its temporalities. In the ruptures of the dominant order, we study the emergence of other times that correspond to the constitution of alternative worlds. Finally, we illustrate the way alternative politics is formed by discussing the constitution of the non-politics.Item La Geometría como herramienta para las Ciencias Sociales y su relación con el número y la palabra(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Barriga, Omar A.; Henríquez, GuillermoThis paper presents an even critic to the present debate of methodological paradigms. We propose to use Geometry as a tool which can be attractive to quantitativists due to its mathematical background as well as to qualitativists due to the graphic representations. We intend to demonstrate the way geometric approximations allow us to perceive the paradigmatic debates with a common and comparable foundation; moreover, as an extension, they allow us to close the gap among methodological paradigms.Item Georges Canguilhem y las prácticas del conocimiento(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Becerra, MarcelaIn this paper, we propose a re-reading of Canguilhem´s work that focuses on: 1) What he has recovered from Bachelard´s epistemology in order to postulate an “epistemological history”; 2) The dissents between Bachelar and Canguilhem about the relations between science and Philosophy, as well as our own evaluation of both legacies; 3)The ways in which Canguilhem´s Philosophy may evolve the practices of knowledge in the sciences and disciplines of life, health and subject, as well as possible articulations between Canguilhem´s philosophy of life, his epistemological history, with the present theoretical debates and the practical challenges in these sciences and disciplines.Item Heterodoxia, subjetividad y desencanto en las memorias de España de Elena Garro(Universidad de Cuenca, 2011) Manzoni, CelinaMemories from Spain. 1937, by Elena Garro (1992), is a text that is traversed by the conflict of the self and the History. Effectively, these memories were built within an instable relation between an explicit then (1937) and the now of the writing (probably 1986 or 1987); the sense movements between both moments traverse the culture of the century in a disperse space: the Spanish cities that were in a highly politicized and sophisticated conflict and spheres from Mexico, Paris and New York, connected by an autobiographic process of delayed publication.Item La huella del chamán: mitos y rituales de una espiritualidad ancestral(Universidad de Cuenca, 2011) Sánchez Carmona, María TeresaShamanism constitutes a clear object of interest in the Area of Human Sciences, not only for being one of the first manifestations of religiousness in the History of Humanity, but in addition because its vision of the World served as a source of inspiration for later cultures, in whose myths it is possible to estimate this ancient substratum. Adopting a point of view eminently comparative the present study tries to outline Shamanism´s main characteristics, as well as to trace its influence on other cultures, attending to the figure of the shaman, the configuration of his imaginary and the symbolism of its rituals and celebrations.Item La idea del sujeto desde nuestra América en un mundo globalizado(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012) Horacio, CeruttiAfter presenting the generation of how knowledge of historie processes where human beings are always involved, it is possible to reflect upon the subjeets people within collectives -who are able to confront their leading role in a responsible way. A suitable epistemological effort permits one to face the transformation of reality more favorably and to construct desirable options when alternatives do not seem possible. Our America has been contributing to this topic for several decades.
