Item 15 años desde la inclusión de Cuenca en la Lista de Patrimonio Mundial(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015-01) Koupermann, JonathanThere are fifteen years since the declaration and it is time to open a dialogue active and proactive among all who work or we link with the heritage as citizens and public and private institutions. It is very favorable that Cuenca would be alive as it is: a heritage city of elements, spaces and cultural experiences that not only respond to important needs of its citizens, but which reveal its soul and spirit.Item A la sombra de las ciudades en flor(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017-07) Moreno Pérez, José Ramón; Iglesia Salgado de la, FélixThe contemporary city is informed by a habitability divided between the modes imposed by the devices of "biopolitical democracy" and the shared elaborations of "terrible communities". This produces a shear in its configuration, which install behaviors that try to articulate this unbearable present emptiness in our lives. In four movements, we want to report of “common places, weapon, temporalities, dynamizations…” that treat of that a world appears. We are in the presence of a repeated transit along the construction of modern urbanity, which now has definitely reached -in the complete realization of its original model- become a great "interior". As celebrates that moment of joy and amazement the title of the article, the "prisoner nomads" would now be engaged in the construction of their narrative and arguments.Item La acogida humana y las prácticas de accesibilidad en la ciudad patrimonio de Ouro Preto(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Benedini Brusadin, Leandro; Akemi Kumagai, AdrianeOuro Preto obtained the title Humanity's Cultural Heritage for UNESCO in 1980. the present research analyses the Tour Assistance Center (CAT) and the Inconfidência Museum: the first because of being located in the main means of transport of arrival to the city (bus station), where CAT positions receive the visitors; the second for the important representative symbolic mark and the central location at the Square of Tiradentes. The methodology of this research was based on the bibliographical inquiry in books, articles and thesis in the areas of cultural heritage, accessibility and host. Was carried out, still, with photographic registers in situ and analysis of perception in both study objects. The result of this, in spite of the difficulties of these institutions in projects of physical accessibility are built for the imposition of the legislation to preservation of heritage cultural and of the urbane topography itself, some projects was created and articulated to host the resident and the tourist. Meantime, for the bearers of reduced mobility is necessary to create tools of access that go besides the physical forms of the buildings with the intention of providing social inclusion.Item Actualidad del patrimonio en Cuba, reflexiones sobre desarrollo sostenible y conservación preventiva(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Bello Caballero, Luis; Muñoz Castillo, María; Soto Suárez, Milene; Morcate Labrada, FloraRecent changes in Cuba’s economic and social policies foresee implications in local heritage sites. Current challenges determine the need to examine opportunities for sustainable development within the new socioeconomic context. In this regard, scholars analyze the positive and negative effects of today’s circumstances. The analyses exposed in this paper start by noting the links between culture, sustainable development, and preventive conservation (first section). The latest as a new paradigm within the heritage field that articulates the social, economic, and environment pillars. The second section addresses the main issues of Cuban heritage sites; as well as the challenges that both, integral development plans and management plans still have to cope with. Considering the topicality of Cuba’s heritage, the third section exposes possible alternatives that can contribute to sustainable development by referring to actions undertaken in the Academia.Item Los agentes biológicos como elementos articuladores del paisaje urbano de Cuenca. El antes, el ahora y el después(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015-01) Cordero Cueva, PaulaTo understand the relationship between the landscape and biological agents in Cuenca during the past 15 years, it is necessary to carry out an analysis of the past, the present and the future in the history of this landscape. Living beings are agents of change and transformation of the image of the city, the plants and animals depend on us and vice versa. Unfortunately, to consolidate and grow, the city of Cuenca is losing green areas and the connection between the biological corridors that sustain the landscape. Item Algunas reflexiones sobre Cuenca, Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad(2015-01) Carvallo Cordero, HonoratoAlready fifteen years after the honorable designation of Cuenca as Cultural Heritage of Humanity, It is long enough to make a space and, between us, meditating on how we are walking and assuming this enormous responsibility, because, while it is an honor, it is also a commitment of enlargement and respect to this city. Obviously, the world is waiting for fulfillment of the valuable trust that it has given us.Item Altares y tianguis: una apología del espacio abierto en Sudamérica(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017) Baros Townsend, MauricioIf there is a place in Spanish American cities where you can find a perfect symbiosis between the heritage of Native American religion and the Catholic religion is in the main squares of many of these cities, that despite the changes, they allow convergence of ancestral activities as trade with religious festivals that take place in the same space. We will make an analysis of the thermal insulation, solar protection, ventilation and natural lighting, to subsequently verify its compliance and propose, for each instance, solutions to improve them.Item Antecedentes, rol y desafío de la digitalización del patrimonio arquitectónico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-10) Santana Quintero, MarioNo doubt, the use of digital tools in the documentation of the architectural heritage has revolutionized the way in which historic places are identified, disseminated and virtually valued. However, these new opportunities bring new challenges to guarantee scientific accuracy and the reliability of the information used to document and protect the heritage sites long term and thus to ensure that these records are transmitted and are maintained for future use. This contribution is not only intended to underline the challenges, but also to offer options, taking into account the notion of efficiency requirements and how to capture and disseminate the knowledge the of heritage goods. These objectives will be achieved by taking as starting point the needs of the place from a comprehensive and participatory approach, focused on the importance of the information to understand the meaning and integrity. In this sense, it is essential also to evaluate the radius of deterioration caused by disturbances/threats and potential risks to these cultural resources. In relation to cultural heritage, the emphasis of this work is given to historic buildings and archaeological sites.Item Aportes desde la teoría del actor red para implementar la aproximación del paisaje histórico urbano(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Urbina, Amparo deThis article presents contributions from the actor-network theory to the recommendation of the Historic Urban Landscape; all this from the understanding of historical centers as urban heritage, where the urban phenomenon transcends the physical dimension of the city. This theoretical review considers the landscape as central and articulating concept; this implies recognizing and strengthening the social component understood from the construction of relationships. The actor-network theory is useful because it shows the relational patterns between actors - human and nonhuman - in order to make them visible.Item La arquitectura de Sverre Fehn: el universo que cabe en una línea(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017-01) Rincón Borrego, IvánThe work of Sverre Fehn, Prize Pritzker of Architecture in 1997, is one of the most cryptic and seductive legacies of the architecture of second half of century XX. This research analyses the original watercolours Sverre Fehn performs for decades on the island of Hvasser. It unravels the cultural heritage embodied in them, as well as the remarkable process of abstraction they represent. The author's interest in drawing sailboats and horizons is the first step in understanding some of his most relevant fables; The Earth as a Great Museum and The Labyrinth. The ideas and cultural references that we find in them can be considered part of the creative process that becomes in the architecture and teaching work of Fehn.Item Arquitectura histórica y Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial: una simbiosis necesaria. Las zonas de Patrimonio Cultural de Mérida, estado de Yucatán-México(Universidad de Cuenca, 2015-07) Rivero Canto, RaúlThe objective of the article is to explain and analyze the necessary symbiotic relationship between the conservation of historic architecture and preservation of intangible cultural heritage. An important aspect is the identification of popular catholic piety as representative cultural manifestation of the studied areas. The article analyzes each of the areas of cultural heritage to show how historic architecture favors traditions survive while the intangible manifestations strengthen the conservation of buildings in which they occur.Item Aulario III de la Universidad de Alicante (1998-2000), Javier García-Solera Vera. Análisis de proyecto arquitectónico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-01) Aguirre Collahuazo, Jonnathan PatricioThis research presents the interest on observing the architectural project phenomenon. The central axis of this study is to understand modern architecture as a process that exposes the precise essence of the form. To analyze critically different projects that show order in its form through esthetic judgment, allows us the opportunity to experience the different processes and design decisions that the author had to confront to be able to develop the project. Thus, the work is focused to make an approach to Aulario III, produced by the Spanish architect Javier García-Solera; using the sketch as a main tool. The aim is found the intrinsically architectural values of the project, this way an evaluation of each structuring element is performed, which allows us to define and expand the knowledge of solid tools used as materials for architectural designing.Item Beyond petroleum: a look at the impact of electric cars in the three main cities of Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017-01) Maks Davis, MichaelThe purpose of this paper is to study the impact of changing private vehicles in Ecuador’s three main cities from combustion engines to their electric counterparts, and to assess whether the newly created electricity demand could be met by renewable energies located within the city boundaries. The work studies Ecuador’s three main cities: Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca. It was found that in theory and in the extreme case, if there were a sudden change where all the cars and SUVs of Quito were to be replaced by electric vehicles, an electricity demand would be created that could be satisfied through roof installed solar PV within the city boundaries. It would not be feasible however, to do this through wind power. Overall, it was recognised that in reality the changeover to electric vehicles is not likely to be sudden, plus that a transition to electric cars and SUVs only works towards partially solving the problem of fossil fuel demands from the transport sector, but has little impact on the issue of congestion and space requirements. As such, mass transit, multi-modal, electric transport systems have an important role to play in this context for the next stage of research.Item La calidad del paisaje costero, a través de Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) hacia un manejo territorial sustentable Bahía de Banderas y Puerto Vallarta-México(Universidad de Cuenca, 2016-01) Arias Orozco, Silvia; Avila Ramírez, David Carlos; Rivera Borrayo, ElizabethThe approach in this study is the analysis of the Quality of the Landscape and the elements of Visual Fragility based on a process and assessment using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), enabling the analysis and implementation of a Sustainable Model of Landscape Intervention. The process is based on the optimization of the treatment and exploration of basic visual elements of the coastal landscape, with the goal of establish groundwork for identification of territorial impacts and possible measures for the conservation, restoration and minimizing changes on it. The object of the analysis were the main elements of the visual quality of the landscape, such as the watershed and its visual fragility and the landscaping capacity; and thereby determine the areas of greatest potential in the landscape, as well as identify the protection areas on the ecological environment in the Bahía de Banderas, México. From that point on it is possible to develop an Evaluation and Strategic Model for potential actions that include Sustainable Landscape Interventions; and recommendations for good practices in the territory occupation by the tourism sector and the activities that generates.Item Centro cívico de Guatemala, patrimonio moderno en peligro(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Fuentes Padilla, SoniaThe Ministry of Culture and Sports in Guatemala is conscious that modern heritage is already susceptible of being recognized, protected and divulged, requested DoCoMoMo Guatemala, to lead the technical committee to do the proposal to declare the Civic Center as National Heritage (2014). Therefore a workshop was organized to achieve the recognition of the Civic Center´s uniqe values and therefore the official recognition as Heritage of our Nation. Unfortunately, two years ago it was revealed that the government threatened against all the initiatives explained above to elevate this Civic Center to become candidate in the UNESCO´s Indicative List by proposing an invasive proposal of about 6 massive buildings in the site where the actual Central Train Station located nearby Civic Center and that is already declared as National Heritage. The management of the Architectural Heritage and its validation should be done by participatory and inclusive actions. A group of professionals and patrimonial managers propose a counterproposal focused on the valorisation and revitalization of the heritage but not to its destruction.Item La ciudad imaginada Los territorios, lo imaginario y lo simbólico(Universidad de Cuenca, 2013-02) Jaramillo Paredes, DiegoThe various approaches that, over time, have been developed and applied to study the urban, have privileged the visible city, the matter, the physical universe; it mean, the city itself such as spatial geographic dimension (the ecology of living) and not the urban as an socio-cultural and anthropological dimension (the culture of living). The analysis of the material conditions of the city while it is necessary, is not sufficient, since the city is also a stage of desires of evocations and dreams of its inhabitants who, on a daily basis and relentless way, are building one or multiple images of her. This article, which is part of a research project on urban imaginaries, deals precisely the reflection on the city understood as a place of cultural event and scenario of an imaginary effect, the symbols on it built by its own inhabitants; that hidden or invisible city which constitutes a complex network of symbols in permanent construction. In this framework, we focus on the notion of territory, conceived as a cultural construction and its relationship with the imaginary and the symbolic.Item La “ciudad lineal” alternativa al crecimiento imparable de la gran urbe actual(Universidad de Cuenca, 2017-07) Maure Rubio, Miguel AngelThe urban concentration has reached the limits of the present city. We can see nowadays its unstoppable growth, becoming, in some regions and countries, megalopolis that absorb up to 80% of its population. It is difficult to predict where the top of its growth will be, given that cities like Buenos Aires take in up to 14 million citizens. Back in 1882, an urbanistic proposal based on a linear growth got ahead the future, trying back then to blend both the rural and the urban life. The linear city would cut across the countryside, linking traditional cities between them and creating a net in the territory. Even though the references to the work of its inventor, Arturo Soria y Mata, are not explicit, his ideas have been taken into account in different urban developments during the last century, and we could nowadays bring them back to debate over the morphology of the present city. The linear city originates an alternative to the housing of all social classes.Item Company Towns: arquitectura y paternalismo. De la Compagnie Royale Asturienne des Mines a Cristalería Española(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-01) Tielve García, NataliaCompany Towns, based on the idea that housing welfare for workers is vital for the sake of improving labour efficiency, are exceptionally interesting because they help us understand not only the relation between dwelling and environment, but also the social policies adscribed to industrial paternalism. Different perks, from dwelling to education, to the provision of basic consumer goods, as well as healthcare and leisure, were aimed at creating a new kind of man, a model worker, submissive, rooted, loyal and emotionally attached to his family-like company. For the Spanish case, we can identify two periods: a first, expansive phase, which spanned throughout the 19th century, culminating at the end of World War I; and a second phase which coincided with the industrial development and demographic growth –with the resulting increase of the number of workers– that took place in Spain after the Spanish Civil War. Parting from the Compagnie Royale Asturienne des Mines and finishing with Cristalería Española, in this paper we analyse several architectural complexes of outstanding interest, which were carefully planned according to the aforementioned principles.
