Item La codependencia y la asertividad del/a cuidador/a primario de pacientes varones internados por consumo de sustancias psicotrópicas(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-05-05) Morales Arteaga, Ana María; Ordóñez Martínez, Lourdes NubeAbstract Introduction Co-dependency is one of the most common negative characteristics of the primary caregiver, in cases of addiction, violence and chronic or terminal illness. Communication is a decisive factor for a persons development, whether the communication is assertive or unassertive marks the selfesteem, relationships, treatment and many situations in a persons daily life. If these factors are not properly worked out and learned it again, the person will be in poor physical and mental health in external situations, in this case a family member suffering from addiction to one or more psychotropic substances. Materials and Methods This is a cross sectional and descriptive study, two tools were used for this canid of studies, both in the area of psychotherapy and psychiatry. The Argentine Scale of Codependence handles three variables; focus on the other, low self-confidence and complacent attitude. On the other hand, the Rathus Test or RAS, measures assertive communication skills. Both have determined the relationships of the primary caregivers, determining whether or not there is a lack in these areas. To carry out the analysis between dimensions, the scores were weighted in such a way that the scale of measurement for each dimension could range from 1 to 5. Results The study was applied in 60 primary caregivers, 30 in Cuenca and 30 in Guayaquil, in two rehabilitation centers in order to observe how co-dependence and assertiveness are expressed in different cities. It was determined that the variable Focus on the other is important in the case of codependence and that it prevails in men, while the variable of low self-confidence prevails in women. With the Rathus test a negative tendency was obtained, that is to say, unassertiveness prevails and women are those who are more unassertive. Finally, it was determined that there is no significant relationship between assertiveness and codependency. Conclusions Both factors chosen for the study show a need for improvement with respect to the primary caregiver, the approach to family management in rehabilitation centres must be improved
