The role of the Industrial Engineer has evolved over the years, currently it has solid bases to fulfill a
work of integral manager of all the resources of the organization, expanding its field of action to diverse areas,
leaving aside his work only in the industry of goods production and transferring their knowledge to the services
production. The current Ecuadorian public sector aims to improve its processes, working methods and the
systems organization to provide a quality service to citizens, with efficiency and effectiveness. This research
seeks to determine the contribution that the Industrial Engineer can offer to the Ecuadorian public sector, by
comparing the competencies developed during their higher studies and the competencies that this sector needs.
