Rehabilitación de módulos del sistema CIM del laboratorio de máquinas y potencia de Ingeniería Eléctrica de la Universidad de Cuenca

The rehabilitation of the modules of the CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) system of the machinery and power laboratory of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cuenca is presented as a fundamental project to improve the academic and practical training of students. This work seeks to update and optimize the existing modules, incorporating modern technologies that facilitate more effective learning and aligned with the demands of today's labor market. The main objective of this rehabilitation is to achieve functionality and efficiency of the CIM system, allowing students to acquire competencies in the integration of industrial processes, automatic control and resource management. The methodology includes a thorough diagnosis of the current state of the modules, followed by the implementation of technical and technological improvements. Tools such as simulators and specialized software will be used to allow a better understanding of industrial processes. Among the specific activities to be carried out are the technical evaluation, which consists of the analysis of the current state of the modules, identifying failures and areas for improvement, and the technological upgrade, which involves the integration of new components and software that meet the current needs of the industrial sector.
Construcción de un prototipo de aerogenerador casero

This project focuses on the design and construction of a homemade wind turbine for small-scale renewable energy generation, using recycled and low-cost materials. Its main objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of producing electricity in an accessible and sustainable way, promoting the use of clean energy. The development of the prototype is based on the application of Faraday’s Law, which explains electromagnetic induction, and a detailed analysis of the electrical and mechanical components involved. The construction of the wind turbine was carried out in several stages, from theoretical review and software modeling to assembly and testing under different wind conditions. To keep costs low and ensure an ecological approach, recycled materials such as PVC pipes, neodymium magnets, copper wires, and reused components were used. The system design includes a rotor, an alternating current generator, and a stable support mechanism. After its construction, the prototype underwent experimental testing, successfully generating electricity on a small scale. Despite its limitations, the results demonstrated that it is possible to develop efficient energy solutions with accessible resources.
Estudio en Cuenca- Ecuador sobre la implementación de suelo radiante eléctrico para asegurar una sensación térmica adecuada a nivel de suelo frente a las variaciones climáticas constantes

Considering the climatic conditions of the city, characterized by meteorological fluctuations with generally cold temperatures. This study seeks to offer an alternative and optimized system that prioritizes an environment of thermal well-being, with the analysis that will avoid thermal shocks by evaluating the feasibility of installing electric radiant floor heating systems in the canton of Cuenca, Ecuador. Appreciating that low temperatures are a factor that affects the health of every individual, but, in particular, complicates degenerative diseases in older adults, generating limitations in their daily lives. Consequently, a survey is incorporated to determine what percentage of the population would be willing to implement this system in their spaces, taking into consideration the advantages that this implementation will bring to their wellbeing. In addition, graphic diagrams supported by the survey are incorporated to facilitate a clearer understanding of the magnitude of the problem. On the other hand, it includes the development, installation and demonstration of the system implemented in a scale model, using a mock-up that simulates a real scenario. This model will allow a clearer visualization of the operation of the system under conditions similar to those encountered in practice, thus facilitating a better understanding of its effectiveness and potential application.
Construcción de un banco didáctico para la evaluación de las curvas de protección de los interruptores termomagnéticos de 6 y 10 amperios

This project demonstrates the operation of thermomagnetic switches based on two of the effects produced by the circulation of electric current in a circuit: magnetic and thermal effects. For this purpose, a didactic bench is built, where the operation of the protection of devices of 6 and 10 amperes capacity are tested. The purpose is to implement an educational tool in which the mechanisms of magnetic and thermal protection with their respective trigger curves are replicated in more depth. On the other hand, this project will allow visualizing the operation of the thermomagnetic circuit breaker in the corresponding protection area, given by the manufacturer, through an elaborated guide that will standardize the processes and define the steps to be followed in each test.
Readecuación de la instalación eléctrica del Salón Comunal de Cochas: un enfoque técnico y práctico

This work proposes to optimize and modernize the electrical installations of the reception hall of the Cochas community with an integral approach. For this purpose, the electrical installations of the building are readapted, both in the lighting circuits and in the outlets, with a completely renovated design. The approach includes diagnosis, proposal and execution of the electrical system considering social, economic and technical aspects. In terms of technical criteria, the Ecuadorian Construction Standard NEC is followed. The project considers measures and calculations to avoid generating faults in the circuits, such as overheating or short circuits. Within this line of project, we ensure an improved, stable performance and the capability for the building to be used more frequently for both internal and external events of the Cochas community.
Desarrollo de un banco didáctico para la implementación y simulación de un sistema de alarma de seguridad

An alarm system training bank with smoke, magnetic and motion sensors can be an effective tool for students to understand the operation of security systems. This type of bench allows you to observe, test and adjust the key elements of an alarm system, as well as its response to different stimuli. In this case, motion sensors would be integrated, which detect activity in a certain area; magnetic sensors, which are activated when opening a door or window; and smoke sensors, essential for early detection of fires. To verify operation, students can perform tests in which each sensor is activated under controlled conditions. For example, you can wave your hand in front of the motion sensor to check its response, open and close a door or window equipped with the magnetic sensor, and expose the smoke sensor to some safe smoke. These hands-on tests will help students understand how these sensors send signals to the control panel and activate the alarm or a programmed response. Additionally, this bank can be integrated with mobile or monitoring interfaces for comprehensive and up-to-date learning in the use of modern security systems.
Construcción de tablero didáctico de prácticas para motores trifásicos en el taller de UCuencaTec

This project consists of designing and building an analog and digital didactic control board for single-phase or three-phase motors. The board shows the functioning and operation of the elements involved during motor's control and start-up. The board is equipped with protection, measurement, and signaling systems for the workshop of the Unidad Académica Técnica y Tecnológica “Salvador Allende” from the Universidad de Cuenca. The didactic board has been designed in such a way that it is divided into energy input zone, thermal protection zone, power zone with contactors and their protection relays, and the control zone with the respective light signaling. These zones help teach students the different ways of starting a single-phase, twophase or three-phase motor. In addition, they help teach motor starting sequences with timing, changes of direction of rotation, and braking and speed changes. This design features slotted plastic raceways, connectors, and conductors. Furthermore, the design has a tomato bottom with wooden mounting base, simulating an industrial board. This test bench is used as a support for theoretical and practical subjects such as: Analog Control and Digital Control from the Instalaciones de Redes Eléctricas technical program. Finally, this test bench allows knowing, visualizing, and analyzing the behavior of voltages, currents, frequencies, and powers of the most common motors in the industry.
Optimización y mejora de las instalaciones eléctricas de luminarias y motores en el taller de carpintería "Los Eucaliptos" – Jima

In the industry whatever big or small, it is so fundamental to expect with a type of sure electrical installations and lending on this way energy efficiency to guarantee the process of production and job security. In the Azuay province, Canton Sigsig, Parroquia Jima, there is a carpentry workshop named “Los Eucaliptos” which belongs to Jorge Huayllasaca Fernandez, but unfortunately its electrical installations present several deficiencies including the lack of adequate thermomagnetic protections for the circuit, all its electrical conductors are in very poor condition; which are obviously electrical risks, obsolete ignition levers and no ground connection. In this degree work named Optimización y mejora de las instalaciones eléctricas de luminarias y motores en el taller de carpintería "Los Eucaliptos" – Jima, proposes to carry out a complete diagnosis, redesign the electrical installations of the workshop, improve working conditions, install new electrical circuits for motors, lights and outlets mainly .The methodological approach used was through a complete diagnosis of the place to determine existing problems, in order to make the best decisions that involve the redesign of the entire electrical part, guaranteeing that the workshop is in better conditions to operate without any potential risks and complying with the required regulations. As conclusion, it was possible to get a better electrical system by implementing new circuits and electrical conductors in order to get better operation system and following the most important rules to have a save place based on the normative according to the electric code.
Lubricación automática para una escalera eléctrica con monitoreo de cadena

The automatic lubrication system designed for this work represents a key need for escalator maintenance companies. Currently, lubricating the chains and checking their tension presents several difficulties, which generates a waste of time and materials, in addition to representing a high risk for the collaborators who perform these tasks. For the development of the chain lubrication and monitoring system, an analysis was carried out based on the author's experience as a maintenance technician, in which the high risk associated with these tasks was identified, as well as the waste of materials and the lack of effective lubrication. Subsequently, the system structure was designed, defining the elements to be used and the corresponding programming. The design is based on the experience with escalators, with the objective of automating processes that, in certain models, are still carried out manually. Therefore, alternative solutions are proposed that best suit the maintenance needs. As a result, a lubrication control system is developed, defining the controller element and its components. Finally, the system is evaluated by means of a scale model, which allows to analyze the operation of both the ladder and the lubrication system, in order to optimize it is performance through simulation.
Implementación de un sistema de limpieza de paneles solares para mejorar su rendimiento

In response to the growing demand for electrical energy, it is essential to promote clean and sustainable energy sources. Photovoltaic energy has become a viable option in our country due to the abundant solar radiation throughout the year. With the aim of improving performance, an automated cleaning system is being designed that will allow for regular maintenance, optimizing the performance of solar panels. Studies have shown that inadequate maintenance can reduce the efficiency of panels by up to 50%. Furthermore, the use of this technology will reduce costs associated with labor and cleaning products. With the automatic cleaner, solar panels will be kept in optimal conditions, unaffected by dirt and other common factors. This approach not only improves efficiency and durability but also contributes to sustainability by promoting the use of clean energy. In this way, greater energy efficiency and significant long-term savings are achieved.
Tablero didáctico para la enseñanza de relés diferenciales con aplicación práctica en el laboratorio de instalaciones de redes eléctricas-UCuencaTec

The project aims to create a didactic board that demonstrates the efficiency and functionality of a differential relay and to implement a differential relay in Laboratorio de Instalaciones de Redes Eléctricas at UCuencaTec to enhance electrical safety by reducing the risk of electrical failures that could compromise people’s safety. Through this project, the importance of the differential relay in identifying and preventing failures is addressed, emphasizing its optimal performance when integrated into systems with proper grounding. The project describes the development of the didactic board, covering everything from circuit design and material selection to construction, assembly, and functional testing. It also includes the installation of a differential relay in a real-world environment, detailing laboratory assessment, the creation and modification of electrical plans, component selection, and device implementation. The results confirm that the didactic board is a valuable tool for practical teaching and that differential relay installation has significantly improved laboratory safety. This project highlights its importance in technical training in electrical safety and the correct application of protective measures in electrical installations. Overall, the project is not only about implementing technology but also has an important educational component in raising awareness among users about electrical safety.
Mantenimiento y mejora de las instalaciones eléctricas en el taller de soldadura “El Toro” ubicado en la parroquia Yanuncay

The present project is based on the issue of defective electrical installations at the "El Toro" workshop due to infrastructure failures as well as miscalculations in demand concerning power and lighting circuits, such as outlets, switches, wiring, and lamps. Therefore, this project will implement a design improvement to achieve a comprehensive optimization of the workshop's electrical installations, as well as their protection. Additionally, a complete maintenance will be carried out, along with a better positioning of elements to ensure there are no obstructions in terms of proper lighting levels and the correct distribution of control and power components. Currently, the lighting system is not only defective but also inefficient, so appropriate LED lamps will be installed to improve these conditions. The workshop tools, such as the welding machine, require a supply voltage of 220V, which is why we propose a workshop renovation. The fundamental aspect of this project is the power circuit points (outlets), which will be 110V and 220V depending on the equipment used in the workshop. Regarding maintenance, the meter itself will also be serviced, and thermomagnetic protections will be installed according to the demand. In conclusion, to optimize the workshop, a renovation is being planned, focusing on a comprehensive improvement of the electrical infrastructure.
Simulación de un sistema para ascensor controlado por PLC

The purpose of this project is to build automated elevator control for a model where a Programmable Logic Controller is in charge of the system. We want this system to explain the advantages of automation in elevator systems and provide hands-on learning methods to grasp the fundamentals of industrial control. Automatic elevator systems need to function properly in cities and commercial spaces. PLCs function as energetic control elements that process data efficiently to connect devices and produce safe results. The integration of a PLC in the model offers an experience that being close to the actual ones allows to evaluate the possible improvements in the service. It can also act as a medium between education and the workplace to prepare students for future jobs in automation and control. It is based on its educational advantages, the promotion of technical thinking throughout the development of the practical activity and the skills of the participants in the context of the work process. Also, the emulation of systems and the issue of safety are complementary energetic aspects that add value in education and training in the field. The elevator model is initialized with a PLC in charge of controlling the actions around the cabin such as going up, going down, stopping at the required floors and reacting to user responses. These are position sensors which inform the PLC of the exact location of the elevator.
