(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-05-13) Verdugo Illescas, Deysi Paola; Villalva Cabezas, Jessica Margarita; Peñafiel Peñafiel, Marcia Beatriz
Biological occupational accidents with sharps devices represent a relevant concern for nursing staff, due to the high prevalence and impact on morbidity and mortality, as a result of the transmission of infectious diseases like Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis and Human Papilloma, caused by the use of needles, syringes, scalpels and other sharp objects, which when handled inappropriately represent a significant risk for such staff, most of these events occur during user care due to direct exposure. The most frequent causes are: lack of training, updating and education on procedures for handling sharps equipment, conditions of the work area and professional and non-professional behavior. Updating knowledge, preventive measures and adequate management of biosafety devices and protocols are the key to reducing the incidence of biological accidents.

Therefore, the motivation to carry out this investigation. In this sense, this document embraces two transversal points. First, it addresses a context through some key terms to understand the importance of popular games. Second, it describes and analyzes the data obtained from interviews and life stories of people from the mentioned community. Altogether, these two parts allow answering the objectives and intended research question. Thus, the inhabitants of the rural area of Quilloac are the protagonists of this study.
