Análisis de los sistemas productivos bovinos de los cantones occidentales de la provincia del Azuay
(2017) Moyán Plaza, Ana Lucía; Ortega Herrera, Vanessa Viviana; Vanegas Cabrera, Raúl Alejandro
The objective of the present study was to make a general diagnosis of the livestock sector of the western cantons in the province of Azuay. The information was obtained from a survey of owners in their Agricultural Production Units (UPAs), distributed in three categories: 208 small (<5 ha), 222 medium (5-50 ha) and 26 large (>50 ha). Statistical analyzes were based on the exploration of variables, main statisticians, main component analysis (ACP), and analysis of conglomerates (AC), with the following results: producers ages 40 to 60 with primary education. The natural grass was 77.9% in small UPAs, 59% in medium and in the large 38.5%. The average production of liters/milk/cow/day in the three categories of UPAs was 5.8; 6.7 and 5.0 liters respectively; in the same way, the age at first service was 24.3; 24.0 and 22.1 months respectively. Meat marketing was performed in 25.5% in small UPAs, 41.4% in medium and 65.4% in large farms. The ACP identified 8, 13 and 3 components in small, medium and large farms with 81.54%, 81.16% and 93.81% of total accumulated variance, respectively. With the AC two systems were formed in the small UPAs, two in the medians, of these farms a system presented better results in the variables. In the large UPAs a sy

Vegetation cover such as natural forests, exotic forests, and grasslands have faced intense human pressure due to the growing demand for agricultural and livestock services, causing degradation and changes in vegetation cover. This anthropogenic activity affects a wide range of ecological and biophysical processes. The importance of natural forests lies in the fact that trees provide organic matter, which is essential for maintaining soil health and associated biodiversity. This study was conducted in the Sunsun Yanasacha protective forest, between the Baños and Victoria del Portete parishes in the highlands of Nero, Azuay province. The physical and chemical properties and characterization of the organic horizon were evaluated in four types of vegetation cover: natural forest, pine forest, grassland and pasture. Soil samples were obtained by random sampling for subsequent laboratory analysis. In the soils of pine forests, it is common to find Oe horizons, where the thickness is greater, while the native forest has a greater thickness in the Oa horizon in relation to the other coverages. Significant differences were found in the pH variable of the O horizon, where the range varied from 3 to 6 in the different vegetation covers. The characterization of organic horizons reveals a significant variability in the chemical properties of vegetation cover, influenced by factors such as vegetation, climate and altitude

The present research resides in the need to know the characterization of the agricultural production systems and the flow of people and products in the rural parishes of Baños and San Joaquín, canton of Cuenca, Azuay province. Considering that agricultural production systems are of great importance around the world since it is the source of food for millions of people and it represents the main economic income of producers, poor management or lack of it, is detrimental because the welfare of population is at risk. The objectives of this research are to technically, economically and socially characterize the agricultural production systems, as well as to characterize the flow of people and products in order to estimate the sustainability of the parishes through their agricultural systems. The methodology was based on the execution of 165 surveys to producers, of which 43 are for the parish of Baños and 122 for San Joaquín, with the results obtained from the surveys, a statistical analysis of multiple correspondence (ACM) was carried out to identify the existing production systems, and flow charts were also generated. Once the data was analyzed, it was found that Baños presents 3 types of production systems and a better flow of people, through data correlation it was concluded that production system 3 is the most sustainable, this being a more natural, profitable system, and with better advice, while in San Joaquín 4 production systems and a better flow of products were identified, and analyzing their data it was concluded that system 2 is the most sustainable because it presents balanced percentages from the economic, ecological and social dimension.

Efectos colinesterasicos y contaminación del agua causados por el uso de plaguicidas en zonas agrícolas del cantón Santa Isabel
(2015) Auquilla González, Bolívar; Vanegas Cabrera, Raúl Alejandro
Approximately 86% of the inhabitants of Dandan, Lunduma and Tugula, in Canton Santa Isabel belonging to the province of Azuay, is engaged in agriculture, and its activities are exposed to different pesticides. The objectives were to determine cholinesterase levels of farmers, the possible contamination of drinking water and irrigation pesticides and identify the different pesticides applied in the area. Surveys and interviews were conducted to farmers and retailers of agrochemicals, blood sampling and analysis to determine cholinesterase, as well as sampling and analysis of water to establish pesticide residues. Among the pesticides used are organophosphates and carbamates. 4.39% of the farmers cholinesterase values were lower than the normal cholinesterase, 1.09% exceeded the normal level, while 94.52% were among the normal range (4 659 to 14 443 U / L). There is no significant inverse relationship (P 0.180> 0.05) between cholinesterase and exposure, ie as exposure increases cholinesterase tends to decrease and vice versa. A similar correlation was found between cholinesterase levels and age of farmers. Cholinesterase levels between male and female gender is statistically similar, as are the averages of cholinesterase among the group of farmers and people engaged in other economic activities (P> 0.05). These results lead us to conclude that exposure to organophosphate and carbamate pesticides affect on cholinesterase levels of farmers in the study, with a tendency to decrease. Laboratory tests did not detect pesticide residues in samples of water for human consumption and irrigation, but these results are not conclusive, so it is suggested that future research on this topic.
