This fact allows students to store the information that can be used in their everyday life. It is the teacher’s job to know how to activate previous knowledge of childrenthrough specific strategies which allow them to relate with the new information.
Given the realities of the contemporary world, it is incumbent upon society to acquire the cognitive and practical capacities necessary for addressing and resolving commonplace problems, highlighting the significance of fostering critical thinking abilities and effective problem-solving strategies. In this context, this research seeks to determine whether the Scout Educational Method contributes to developing critical thinking skills in adolescents between the ages of 10 and 15 in the Scout District of Pumapungo in Cuenca. Critical thinking improves personal understanding, stimulates questioning, and creates socially committed individuals capable of analyzing conflicts. For the development of this study, a qualitative methodology was used through interviews, focus groups with adolescents, and a documentary review. In addition, a questionnaire was administered to Scout leaders. The results showed, both in the documentation and in the discourse of the participants, that the Scout Educational Method develops skills such as autonomy, self-knowledge, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership, critical judgment, and seeks to form citizens who are more committed to their environment. As the main conclusion, it could be inferred that although the non-formal education system of the Scout Method does not explicitly refer to critical thinking, it does show a direct link to the ability of adolescents to analyze and solve everyday problems, fundamental skills of this type of thinking. Finally, based on this study, it is recommended that an intentional process be initiated to promote critical thinking through the Scout Method in the Pumapungo District.

Factores que influyen en el (des) interés por la lectura en los niños de cuarto a séptimo de Educación General Básica
(2014) Arias Loyola, Johanna Priscila; Armijos Dután, María Cristina; Van Der Bijl, Martinus Johannes Carolus María
The following research has as a general objective to identify the “Factors that influence in the (dis) interest for reading in fourth graders and in seventh graders from Elementary school”. This topic is very interesting since reading is one of the most important tools to acquire new learnings, which will serve us in our daily life. To substantiate this point we used the constructivist model from David Ausubel, which states that the student is an active subject and constructor of its own knowledge. This research allowed us to get closer to our educational reality, as it allowed us to precise the roll of the teacher, family, and mass media in the development of students´ (dis) interest for reading. We have compiled a number of strategies to faster the interest for reading. We believe that these strategies will serve as guidelines to increase reading in schools as well as homes. We hope to have demonstrated that the strategies can be enjoyable and entertaining so that the students do not see reading as something mechanic and boring. It is necessary to precise that all these gatherings have guidelines based on the Planning Guidelines and Curriculum Guidelines from the Education Ministry.
