The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the administration of the probiotic (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) together with the prebiotic (Mannan oligosaccharide), on the productive parameters and morphological changes of the ruminal papillae in lactating calves, 12 Holstein calves were evaluated in the Irquis farm of the University of Cuenca, under a stall system, divided into two groups: control group (basal diet) and treatment group (basal diet + probiotic + prebiotic), was administered daily for 3 months, weekly weight, height and amount of feed consumed were controlled, at the end of the study glucose test, endoscopic biopsy and histopathology were performed. The control group presented a lower weight gain compared to the treatment group (p>0.05), however, no significant difference was found, with respect to feed conversion the control group presented a higher value (p<0.05), there being a significant difference in this parameter, with respect to height (p>0.05) statistically there is no significance, regarding the size of the ruminal papillae, the height (p<0.05) presented a significant difference showing a greater size in the treatment group, unlike the width of the ruminal papillae (p>0.05), which did not present a difference, when evaluating blood glucose (p>0.05) no significant difference was found between the two groups. In conclusion, the incorporation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae together with mannan oligosaccharide to the diet of lactating calves was beneficial in relation to feed conversion and ruminal papillae height, with no representative changes in the other variables evaluated.
