There is a directly proportional relationship between levels of emotional intelligence (EI) and good mental health. The interventions carried out in EI are of great importance because they enhance interpersonal relationships and the integral well-being of children. This study aimed to implement and evaluate an emotional intelligence program with children in the fifth year of basic education in the city of Cuenca. A quasi-experimental design was used, where participants aged nine and 11 years were distributed into two groups, one control and one experimental. Eight 90-minute sessions on EI skills were delivered. The groups were evaluated at two pretest and postest times with the TMMS-24 scale and divided into 5 studies for analysis. Most students have adequate levels of emotional intelligence in all three dimensions: attention, clarity, and emotional repair. In conclusion, no statistically significant results were found on the effects of the intervention, however, girls have a higher level of emotional clarity compared to boys.
