This study examines the perceptions of tourism stakeholders regarding crime warning signs, in the Historic Center of Cuenca, to understand their impact on tourist areas. A theoretical review of academic literature on security in tourism spaces was first conducted. The research followed a qualitative, observational, and cross-sectional approach using three tools: participant observation, photovoice, and semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that warning signs serve dual purposes: they function as preventive tools in security management and also influence the perceived safety of both visitors and residents. Furthermore, their strategic placement throughout the Historic Center enhances their effectiveness; however, variations in design and messaging led to differing interpretations.
