Sociolinguistics are relatively a new discipline whose objective is the analysis of the language within its social context. It looks to define how the social and linguistic variants are linked to the communicative process, and to characterize a specific group. In context, youth jargon is the language of a generation that has a repository and a particular social functioning. From the variationist perspective, the main purpose of this research is to analyze in which manner the jargon semantic-lexicon processes set up a particular imaginary regarding the love and friendship environment, in comparison with the cultural imaginary and language of elder generations. This synchronous study will be conducted within the framework of the research project “Configuraciones culturales e identitarias de los jóvenes de la zona urbana del cantón Cuenca: Una mirada sociolingüística”.
Presencia de quichuismos en la jerga juvenil de Cuenca, Ecuador

Abstract This research work analyzes the lexical-semantic procedures in juvenile jargon, as well as the areas of generational (in) communication. Through this academic study, it is intended to show and rescue the Quichua terms in the daily communication of the young people from Cuenca, describing its lexical-semantic origin for the etymological knowledge and its resignifications in the current jargon linguistic repertoire. The results suggest semantic changes from rhetorical figures, wich means the Quichuisms are present in youth jargon and bring about a contemporary intercultural connection.
