The purpose of this study is to stablish the main physical and mechanical parameters of the “Chocarsi” mine, canton Cuenca, supported by a series of laboratory tests. The parameters examined helped to analyze the quality of the material to be used for the parameters examined helped to analyze the quality of the material to be used for the improvement of the subgrade for low-traffic volume roads. The quality analysis was conducted through the index C.B.R. in samples submerged for 96 hours. Additionally, in this study by using the material of the “Chocarsi” mine as the improvement of the subgrade, pavement structures for low-traffic volume roads are proposed. These structures will be based on the method described in the book Pavement Engineering “Ingenieria de Pavimentos para Carreteras” by Monejo Fonseca, 2002. These structures will be least expensive ones suggested by this method. Furthermore, a pavement structure with double superficial treatment placed over the material of the mine “Chocarsi” will be suggested. This is an economical solution for the low-traffic volume roads in Cuenca.
