The rehabilitation and addictions center (C.R.A.) offers its services to the entire country, focusing primordially in southern Ecuador. Currently its facilities are overly crowded due to the existent demand, accordingly, a preliminary architectonic project of expansion is presented, one that may reach the requirements, setting specific interest in its design and infrastructure to provide the required comfort that the user deserves. The use and abuse of psychoactive substances is considered a high care health problem at a worldwide scale, which entails physical, psychological and social degradation to the consumer of the substance in addition to his or her loved ones. The necessary treatment for rehabilitation of the user involves a long period of residence in a specialized establishment. Facing the current situation, we encounter a human as well as architectonic problem. Consequently, the design of the preliminary project drawn from strategies must achieve with both the functional program, in addition to the creation of environments that intend to help during the patients’ therapy. Taking off from the analysis of the problem along with the study of design criteria applied in hospitable architecture, a construction has been envisioned, one that seeks to provide solutions to the requirements of the user, granting them a therapeutic and comfortable space where they can improve in physical along with psychological health.

The project is a requirement for a specific place, which has some characteristics that were discovered from a historical study. The request for a design of a sports center is related to the multiculturalism that existed in this place for being one of the most important mining source of Ecuador. The different nationalities living in Portovelo in that time, left their sports habits and soon became a city of great athletes. The facility will be projected on the site of the former sports complex, historical place of the city. The formal proposal comes from an architectural analysis of a historical house that was selected in a tour in the city. The proposed sports center tries to rescue the values of homes that were built in the time of mining. One of the most important intentions of the project is to try to reduce the consumption of non-renewable energy and exploit the climatic resources to generate the best possible comfort for users.
Diseño de anteproyecto: refuncionalización de planta de tratamiento de agua potable en parque recreativo para el cantón Girón

The project arises from the need from the authorities of the city of Giron to the University of Cuenca, to work in the municipal swimming pool, which has facilities that are in poor condition in addition to being the result of improvisations and adjustments without technical sustenance. The land was used as a pool about 50 years ago, after it ceased to function as a drinking water treatment plant, which was divided into two lots, one of them destined for the current swimming pool. The municipality asign for the intervention the complete property corresponding to the old water plant, where there are constructions corresponding to the old indicated use. Parallel to the studies that are carried out in the field, the needs are determined by the people of Giron in terms of recreation and quality spaces for public use. The Project seeks through the architectural intervention, to satisfy the need of the people while at the same time to enhance the land that is wasted, also improving the service provided by the municipality with the current facilities of the pool, without ignoring the place where the design is developed with its particularities, thus improving the quality of life of the Gironians offering more opportunities for recreation.

As a urban facility, cemeteries respond to the collective needs of a society. Besides being the assigned place for the rest of the dead, it represents the space where the living create a bond with the memory of their loved ones. In some cases, these sites reflect the culture, traditions and significances within the insights of a community. After 77 years operating, the Municipal Cemetery of Giron faces serious problems of space, saturation and shortage of burial units, lack of maintenance, and a complex design of the public space. Therefore, this preliminary project for the readjustment and enlargement of the cemetery started from the analysis of the conditions of the location and its urban relations; as a result of the interests of the Municipal Government of Girón with a previous approach to the phenomenon of death and its relation with the space and the city, which takes into consideration relevant case studies. This study proposes the inclusion of this facility as part of a network of social interaction spaces in urban planning, leaving behind the idea of an isolated, closed and residual space. The architectural project is aimed at recovering profitability by supplying enough burial space while solving design and accessibility problems through parameters of inclusive design, space efficiency, and the provision of green areas.
