Item Estado nutricional y su relación con la calidad de la dieta y calidad del sueño en estudiantes de la carrera de economía de la Universidad de Cuenca. Cuenca, Ecuador. 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-25) Salinas León, Miriam Elizabeth; Huillca Huillca, Domenica Paola; Zúñiga Carpio, Gabriela AlexandraBackground: College students´ nutritional status can be affected by diet quality and sleep quality, which, in turn, could be influenced by different factors, like economic resources, workload, and time spent preparing food. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status and diet quality and sleep quality in students of the Economics major at University of Cuenca School of Economics. The participntd were selected through non-probability sampling. To assess nutritional status, the percentage of skeletal muscle and fat mass was analyzed using a bioimpedance device, for diet quality and sleep quality, specific questionnaires were used (IAS and PSQI, respectively). Excel and IBM SPSS were used for tabulation and data analysis. Results: The sample comprised 194 adults aged 18 to 30 years old. Out of all adults, 54,1% reported a high percentage of fat, and 64,4% a standard percentage of muscle. In regard to diet quality, most individuals, i.e., 80,9%, had a diet that “needed changes;” and 73,2% reported poor sleep quality. Finally, no significant relationship between variables was found, which leads to the conclusion that diet quality and sleep quality do not have an impact on the nutritional status of Economics students.
