Item Implementación de un programa lúdico para la enseñanza del ajedrez en adultos mayores con el propósito de contrarrestar el deterioro cognitivo(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-04-05) Guillermo Sinchi, Jenny Alexandra; Quizhpilema Palaguachi, Mariana Jacqueline; Delgado Espinoza, Ana CristinaCognitive decline is characterized by a decrease in cognitive abilities in older adults, preventing them from carrying out daily tasks normally. The objective of this research was to implement a playful program for teaching chess with the aim of countering cognitive decline in older adults at the Geriatric Center Hogar de Cristo Rey. The methodology employed in this research had a quantitative, quasi-experimental approach. The study population consisted of 86 older adults, and the sample was non-probabilistic, as selection was made through the application of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Only older adults without cognitive decline and those with mild cognitive decline were chosen. A total of 8 older adults participated over 12 weeks. The test used measures 11 subscales, of which 5 improved, 2 remained stable, and 4 showed a slight decrease. The results of the Mini-Mental State Examination demonstrated improvements in some subscales, such as delayed memory, repetition of a phrase, reading, writing, and copying a drawing. In conclusion, practicing chess can help counteract cognitive decline in older adults and improve their quality of life.
