    The Use of AI as a Mediator for Developing Writing Skills

    The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into writing instruction has become increasingly prevalent in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, reflecting a shift in the approach employed by educators and learners in the development of writing skills. This research synthesis investigates how AI contributes to the enhancement of English writing abilities, while also examining the limitations and ethical challenges that arise from its use. A total of 19 studies published after 2021 were selected to analyze the relation between AI and writing skills. The analysis employed a thematic approach, identifying patterns across research methodologies, AI tools used, ethical concerns, and student and teacher perceptions. The findings indicate that AI tools such as ChatGPT or Grammarly have some advantages, including grammar correction, vocabulary enhancement, idea organization, and increased student motivation. However, concerns such as plagiarism, over-reliance, misinformation, and unequal access were consistently noted. The synthesis concludes that AI holds considerable promise as a pedagogical tool in EFL writing instruction, but its effectiveness relies upon its thoughtful implementation, digital literacy training, and the establishment of clear ethical guidelines.
