    La neuroarquitectura como herramienta de proyecto: diseño de una sala multisensorial de autorregulación vestibular y táctil en la Universidad de Cuenca para estudiantes neurodivergentes

    During the pandemic, it became evident that the environment significantly impacts people's well-being and mood, which was not well related to architecture until then. On the other hand, historically, architecture has prioritized the visual sensory system, neglecting other senses. In this context, the interest in neuroarchitecture rises, as a discipline combining neuroscience and architecture to promote well-being through studying integral sensory stimulation and the response of the central nervous system, especially in closed spaces where people spend most of their time. This study proposes neuroarchitecture as a tool to address specific problems, focusing on the needs of neurodivergent students in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Cuenca. Although university spaces have been adapted for individuals with physical disabilities, interventions for including neurodivergent individuals have been minimal, almost none. The research develops in a methodological guide applicable to various projects and contexts. Then after bibliographic reviews, surveys, and interviews, a multisensory room was designed, targeting three sensory systems: tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular. This design aims to meet the needs of neurodivergent adults in a university setting. In addition to the guide and the sensory room design, the study seeks to raise awareness about the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and the inclusion of neurodivergent individuals in society. Ultimately, this work highlights the growing relevance of neurodivergence and its impact on inclusive architecture.
