Item Implementación del uso residencial como estrategia para la gestión de la conservación del Patrimonio Cultural Edificado para barrios poblados junto al núcleo central del Centro Histórico de Quito- caso barrio San Marcos(2019-09-05) Amán Esparza, Lady Evelyn; Salazar Guamán, Ximena AlejandrinaAccording to the diagnostic of the institute of Management and Conservation of the Built Heritage, the Historical Downtown of Quito must implement a Residential Use as main strategy for its own conservation within time. With the objective to demonstrate that idea, this investigation analyses the conceptual and theoretical background, the concept of Historical Downtown, as well as its impacts and consequences. The investigation also embraces concepts such as universal principles, identity and integrity by analysing the evolution of the term “central core” in accordance to heritage documents and the study of the Historical Downtown of Quito, its public policies, transformation and its relation with the Built Heritage. There is a chronologic revision to the planning instruments, which allows to know its processes for Quito’s planning. In the next chapter there is a case study in the neighbourhood of San Marcos, starting with a description, continuing with a historical review and an analysis of the figures using Nara’s matrix. The main actors in the neighbourhood took part, they were interviewed to justify the selection of this area for the study. Finally, there is a proposal to reformulate the Residential Use typology. Several strategies used in Latin American Historical Downtowns were reviewed and, based on the before mentioned San Marcos case study, this Residential Use is prioritized for neighbourhoods locate directly immediate to the “central core” of the Historical Downtown of Quito.
