    Estudio de la dosis óptima de permanganato de potasio en el agua cruda que ingresa a la planta de tratamiento de agua potable de ETAPA en el Cebollar para oxidar la materia orgánica

    This study investigates the optimal dosage of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) for the oxidation of organic matter present in raw water supplied to the ETAPA drinking water treatment plant, located in El Cebollar, Cuenca, Ecuador. By improving the quality of treated water through the reduction of organic load, contributing to the efficiency of coagulation and sedimentation processes. Experimental tests were conducted to determine the dosage of KMnO4, agitation speed, and contact time required to assess their effect on organic matter removal. The results indicated greater effectiveness in organic matter removal when using a dose of 400 to 450 μg/L of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) in raw water with turbidity between 3 and 4 NTU. It was found that agitation speed and contact time are not significant factors in the removal of organic matter.
