Promover y prevenir la epilepsia en la atención primaria de salud mediante la aplicación de "conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas" en estudiantes y maestros de la parroquia El Valle, provincia del Azuay, año 2011

Abstract

A quasi-experimental study of a cohort was used to determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding epilepsy in the population of the parish Valley of the Azuay province before and after the intervention of an educational program.- METHODS: A total of 3000 surveys(between before and after) performed on college students and teachers of the institutions belong in to the parish Valley were collected in the period June to December 2011.A standardized questionnaire was used by neurologists for surveys. Research is exempt people who for various reasons were absent from the institutions.- RESULTS: The study population included 2999 people, 7.3% enrolled in school and 92.7% in schools. Among them, 2759 (92%) students and 240(8%) teachers. The average age of the population was15.35 year’s students and teachers was 44.57 years.- CAPs, the variables that were statistically significant, with p= 0.000 were knowledge about epilepsy, causes of epilepsy, care staff, patients with epilepsy, the variables studied knowledge and attitudes toward epilepsy also had statistical significance. The variable that determined appropriate and in appropriate practices had a statistical significance at p =0.000.- These objectives were met, noting that the educational intervention had a large impact on the population, thus changing the way we see and act on a patient with epilepsy.AU
