Abstract: | This degree work studies various cultural aspects of the traditional Cañari funeral
ceremony. For this we have rescued three cañaris funeral songs, which were originally
performed in the community of Quilloac during traditional funerals, to later analyze them
using ethnomusicological and musical tools. Giving great importance to contextualize the
different symbols of it, because it is the result of a mixture between the Cañari culture and
the Spanish religious culture brought during the conquest. A concertation of traditions and
customs that resulted in a unique syncretism in the Ecuadorian Andes.
In the first chapter, some geographical and anthropological data of the Quilloac community
are detailed as a context for the consequent historical review of Cañari catholicity, and
more specifically to the particular way in which syncretism has occurred. The second
chapter reviews the Andean Cosmovision in depth, making a historical review of the
different traditions of the Cañari people and their particular vision of the world. In a special
way, research is carried out on the treatment that death has had in different cultures and in
the Quilloac community. The third chapter presents the musical analysis of the three songs
transcribed to score, specifically to musical components such as: Tonality, time signature,
texture, melody, agogic, dynamics, timbre and form. |
