El rigor constructivo en la composición del proyecto de arquitectura doméstica de Craig Ellwood

Abstract

Craig Ellwood one of the three most important architects of the modern movement along with Mies Van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright, according to Norman Foster (Hines, 2004). All of Ellwood’s buildings, have a structural elegance and an economy of means comparable to those of Mies Van der Rohe, he also focused on making his ideological dream of “transmitting a message through the expressive use of construction a reality” (Gili , 2004, p. 10), it is because of this contribution to modern architecture that this research seeks to identify the works on two scales: housing type and apartment type in the period 1950-1953, and then analyze three specific cases, the Case Study House # 16, Courtyard Apartments and Hale House as a contrast work, where the detail and constructive rigor not only had a pragmatic intention, but were part of the formal composition of the building. The methodology to be used is based on the book El Proyecto Moderno by Cristina Gastón and Teresa Rovira (2007), where it facilitates the process for the researcher, “indicating paths, revealing procedures, systematizing results, so that the work is more fruitful” (Gastón & Rovira, 2007, p.7), a descriptive analysis will be carried out through bibliographic reviews and a graphic analysis that allows us to understand the constructive rigor in the architectural project.
