Abstract

Sinincay is a rural parish in the Cuenca canton. It has a history with strong identity and many cultural values which are important to preserve. It is a place that attracts countless people who come to worship “la Virgen de la Visitación”. Formerly, it was annexed to the parish of San Sebastián. Also, it has lots traditions and customs that have been conserved, and that are more visible in their religious festivities. Popular Medicine is still used nowadays and has an origin from immemorial times. It is used empirically by the population almost every single day even with a health center within the parish. In addition, it is mostly used by elderly people who were treated with this ancestral medicine. On the other hand, the manufacture of bricks is also still performed until today, despite the adversities that this activity entails as the repetition of the same techniques of elaboration and a minimum introduction of new technological knowledge, does not generate greater profits that justify the work of extreme exhaustion delivered to this one practice. Consequently, the lack of resources has not allowed to acquire adequate machinery to minimize human effort. Finally, Panama Hats in the parish have always been a source of economic income, aside of being a touristic attraction. However, its elaboration has been diminished due to the lack of interest, and little economic income that entails the elaboration of this world-famous hat
