Proyecto documental “El último héroe del 41”

Abstract

The main purpose of the following work is to relate a page of the Ecuadorian history: The Panupali war, which took place in 1941, when Ecuador fought against its neighbor from south, Peru. There, we can focus on the hard work of a soldier, who participated in such glorious battle: Sargent. Julio César AlvearMerchán, “the last hero from 41”, whom, nowadays, remains in solitude, abandonment and, besides, has several health problems; among them, his lack of vision is the most serious.As a cause of this, he can’t get well involved in his society. However, in spite of his ninety three years, he still has the necessary mental lucidity to relate us the variety of eventsraised in that battle. The authors, tried to capture these facts in the best way possible, in images, by making a fifteen minute documentary, which would let us observe the main character, his current state and his story, since, for us, it constitutes a very brave action that we want to transmit andlet for general knowledge in our society; we still have an alive character, who took part in one of the most important moments in Ecuadorian history. These days, teenagers and young people spread to give importance to trivialities, they don’t know about the job from the army men, and all the sacrifices that a big amount of people have made to become the country that we are now. Our documentary seeks to show this character, forgotten by the society, a man who introduced the values of love and respect to our homeland, and defended it, to the point of risking his life to let the name of Ecuador on high.
