Estrategia educativa en lactancia materna para adolescentes embarazadas que asisten al Centro de Salud n° 1 Pumapungo. Cuenca, 2014

Abstract

Objective. Apply an educational strategy on breastfeeding for pregnant teenagers attending the Health Center No 1 Pumapungo city of Cuenca.

Material and methods. It is a study of action research, we worked with a sample selection including 25 pregnant adolescents who attended the Health Centre No.1 Pumapungo in the months of March, April and May 2014 as interview technique was used as instrument a form developed by the authors, plus information leaflets and billboards for educational strategy was used. The results are shown in tables with their respective descriptive analysis.

Results. 20% of teens have received training on breastfeeding. 72% have insufficient knowledge about the nutritional value of breast milk, 52% have little or no information about the benefits of breastfeeding. 84% believe that exclusive breastfeeding is the best food, 12% believe that proper nutrition is the combined feeding. 56% said that exclusive breastfeeding should be six months and 44% should be less than 4 months.

Conclusion. The educational strategy was effective. 92% know the benefits of breast milk. 100% are aware of the influence of maternal nutrition on the production of breast milk. The 96% includes direct relationship between milk production and the act of breastfeeding. 92% understand the importance of continuing the post-introduction of foods in the diet of the child lactation.
