Abstract: | Objective. Apply an educational strategy on breastfeeding for pregnant teenagers attending the Health Center No 1 Pumapungo city of Cuenca.
Material and methods. It is a study of action research, we worked with a sample selection including 25 pregnant adolescents who attended the Health Centre No.1 Pumapungo in the months of March, April and May 2014 as interview technique was used as instrument a form developed by the authors, plus information leaflets and billboards for educational strategy was used. The results are shown in tables with their respective descriptive analysis.
Results. 20% of teens have received training on breastfeeding. 72% have insufficient knowledge about the nutritional value of breast milk, 52% have little or no information about the benefits of breastfeeding. 84% believe that exclusive breastfeeding is the best food, 12% believe that proper nutrition is the combined feeding. 56% said that exclusive breastfeeding should be six months and 44% should be less than 4 months.
Conclusion. The educational strategy was effective. 92% know the benefits of breast milk. 100% are aware of the influence of maternal nutrition on the production of breast milk. The 96% includes direct relationship between milk production and the act of breastfeeding. 92% understand the importance of continuing the post-introduction of foods in the diet of the child lactation.

Description: | Objetivo. Aplicar una estrategia educativa en lactancia materna para adolescentes embarazadas que asisten al Centro de Salud No 1 Pumapungo de la ciudad de Cuenca.
Material y métodos. Es un estudio de investigación-acción, se trabajó con una muestra por selección que incluye a 25 adolescentes embarazadas que acudieron al Centro de Salud Nº 1 Pumapungo en los meses de marzo, abril y mayo del 2014. Como técnica se empleó la entrevista y como instrumento un formulario elaborado por las autoras, además se utilizó trípticos informativos y carteleras para la estrategia educativa. Los resultados se presentan en tablas con su respectivo análisis descriptivo.
Resultados. El 20% de adolescentes han recibido capacitación sobre lactancia materna. El 72% tienen conocimientos insuficientes sobre el valor nutricional de la leche materna, el 52% cuenta con escasa información o ninguna sobre los beneficios de lactancia materna. El 84% consideran que la lactancia materna exclusiva es el mejor alimento, el 12% opinan que una nutrición adecuada es la lactancia combinada. El 56% señala que la lactancia exclusiva debería ser de seis meses y el 44% debe ser menor a 4 meses.
Conclusión. La estrategia educativa resultó efectiva. El 92% conocen los beneficios de la leche materna. El 100% están conscientes sobre la influencia de la alimentación de la madre en la producción de leche materna. El 96% comprende la relación directa que existe entre la producción de leche y el acto de amamantar. Un 92% entiende la importancia de continuar con la lactancia posterior a la introducción de alimentos en la dieta del niño.
