Abstract

Nowadays, in the hotel industry, sustainability has become one of the topics raising greater environmental awareness for human beings, since it has been linked in a long lasting way within lodging enterprises, that is why the current research work was developed with the objective of applying the Guide for Sustainable Tourism Best Practices by Rainforest Alliance year 2005, at Hostería Santa Bárbara in Canton Gualaceo, which will make the hostelry activity and sustainable tourism more relevant. The hostel will be in charge of managing and integrating the three elements that are comprised in sustainability, the business, socio-cultural aspects and environmental features. Once the necessary information is gathered, sustainable alternatives will be proposed, which will help the hostel to get the Smart Voyager international certification to make it still more sustainable.
