Abstract
In the tropical countries of Central and South America there grow only a few species of plants that produce allergenic pollen, and these are not widely distributed, with the exception of the grasses which otherwise have a feeble sensitizing power. The output of pollens from grasses is very limited in the high mountains because of the lack of flowering of such plants. The most important species correspond to the families Amaranthaceae, Chenopodiaceae, and Compositae.
Resumen
En los países tropicales de América Central y del Sur solo crecen unas pocas especies de plantas que producen polen alergénico, y estas no están ampliamente distribuidas, a excepción de las gramíneas que, por lo demás, tienen un débil poder sensibilizante. La producción de pólenes de gramíneas es muy limitada en alta montaña debido a la falta de floración de dichas plantas. Las especies más importantes corresponden a las familias Amaranthaceae, Chenopodiaceae y Compositae.
