Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of shrimp companies on the
Ecuadorian economy through three approaches: Economic Growth, Employment and
Corporate Social Responsibility, in addition to implementing a descriptive analysis of the
main characteristics of those companies. It should be noted that the data were obtained
from the Central Bank of Ecuador and the Superintendence of Companies, Securities and
Insurance, through ISIC Code: A0321.02 within the period 2012 - 2020. Additionally, the
study has a descriptive, non-experimental and longitudinal quantitative approach, which
has National GDP and number of employees as dependent variables. Finally, as main
results, it was determined that both exports and sales revenues of shrimp farms contribute
positively and directly to employment, as well as to the National GDP, thus, there is a
great contribution by this sector to generate jobs and increase the country's economy. In
terms of Corporate Social Responsibility, it was found that there are shrimp companies
that are concerned about the welfare of the community and the environment, which has
led them to create different projects or programs that help vulnerable groups and the
ecosystem.
Resumen
El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar el impacto de las empresas
camaroneras en la economía ecuatoriana por medio de tres enfoques: crecimiento
económico, empleo y responsabilidad social empresarial, además de implementar el
análisis descriptivo de las principales características de aquellas empresas. Cabe
destacar que, los datos fueron obtenidos del Banco Central del Ecuador y de la
Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros, a través del Código CIIU: A0321.02
dentro del periodo 2012 – 2020. Adicionalmente, el estudio tiene un enfoque cuantitativo
de tipo descriptivo, no experimental y longitudinal, el cual tiene como variables
dependientes el PIB nacional y la cantidad de empleados. Finalmente, como principales
resultados se determinó que tanto las exportaciones y los ingresos por ventas de las
camaroneras contribuyen de manera positiva y directa al empleo, así como al PIB
nacional, de esta manera, existe un gran aporte por parte de este sector al generar plazas
de empleo e incrementar la economía del país. En cuanto a la responsabilidad social
empresarial se evidenció que existen empresas camaroneras que se preocupan por el
bienestar de la comunidad y del medio ambiente, lo cual los ha llevado a crear diferentes
proyectos o programas que ayudan a grupos vulnerables y al ecosistema.
