Propuesta para la creación de un Bureau de Convenciones en la ciudad de Cuenca

Abstract

This study aims to draft a proposal for the creation of a Convention Bureau in Cuenca, Ecuador to promote event tourism in the region. For this purpose, several bibliographical sources of institutions specialized in Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, or Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) tourism, such as the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) an the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), have been analyzed, as well as studies carried out in recent years by consultants specialized in event tourism in Ecuador. A field study has been carried out in several institutions directly involved in the development of events to find out whether the city has supply and demand that justifies this proposal. After obtaining positives results, we structured the proposal to create a Convention Bureau in the city of Cuenca that would meet the needs of the city and defined the following points: objectives, structure and possible partners to guide the good development of event tourism in the city.
