Representación visual contemporánea del tránsito emocional del desconocimiento al diagnóstico y asunción de las enfermedades reumáticas

Abstract

Personal and biographical experiences have led to many transcendental creations in the history of art. Artists such as Goya, Van Gogh, Munch, and Frida Kahlo are some of the most prolific in scenes of illness and anguish. The autoethnographic experience—in current terms—supported many of his productions; and it is used for the creation of this work, which seeks to artistically represent the emotional transition from ignorance to diagnosis and acceptance of rheumatic diseases, in a contemporary sensitizing pictorial proposal. A paired series of the three stages is created using traditional acrylic painting on acrylic sheets that enrich the transparency effects. Representations are shown resulting from the author (rheumatism patient) with the three representations of the co-author who provides the external, complementary vision. In addition, a parallel story is generated that takes the disease externally, becoming a social problem. Thus, through repetition, the aim is to create awareness of its reality and proximity. Also, in parallel, each human representation is accompanied by an animal representation, which goes through the same emotional stages. The arrangement of the works in an open sequence promoting a route. The highly expressive treatment of the characters aims to convey a message of hope, of strength and confidence in the capacity for resilience that we all have; and help to better empathize with the processes of human anguish from the perspective of supportive and supportive social action.
