La consulta popular convocada desde la ciudadanía en el Ecuador

Abstract

The exercise of power and the different models of governance, that these have developed along the evolution of societies, these have allowed democratic systems prevail over authoritarian systems in many countries, Democracy is a system of governance in constant transformation and with particular characteristics under the conditions of the state, these invite us to investigate the progress of the exercise of direct democracy mechanism in Ecuador through the study of the mechanism of referendum and the reason why these have not come to convoke from the citizens. This project develops his study monograph about the referendum as a mechanism that allows the exercise of direct democracy by citizens. It begins with the conceptualization of Democracy and it’s directly and indirectly bipartition Democracy, which are democratic principles and values for the proper development of a society, the study of Ecuadorian law regarding the mechanisms of direct democracy that recognizes the Constitution of the Republic. Finally, this project studies around the referendum, based on its historical evolution, the exercise of this mechanism in the democratic history of Ecuador, its positive and negative aspects regarding the Ecuadorian experience, its regulation in the Ecuadorian legislation, ending with analyzing the paradigmatic case of the referendum initiative proposed by the Collective Yasunidos.
