Abstract
The objective of this work seeks to make visible, through a contemporary mural painting, the discrimination imparted by white and mestizo society towards indigenous Latin American society, with an empathetic-solidarity aesthetic proposal. Focusing specifically on the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Discrimination against indigenous communities is a historical phenomenon that persists in Ecuador, where they face political exclusion, lack of recognition of their rights and limited access to opportunities. In Cuenca, discrimination against indigenous communities is also present; despite social advances, they continue to fight for their integration and recognition. The scene represented in the mural shows a street fruit vendor, people found around the historic center of Cuenca. They often face persecution by the authorities, who use the informality of their work as an excuse to mistreat them and strip them of their belongings. This mural seeks to question the authorities and society that discriminate against the indigenous community, in addition to highlighting and exalting the indigenous figure and context, thus promoting reflection on our Andean and indigenous roots.
Resumen
El objetivo del presente trabajo busca visibilizar, mediante una pintura mural contemporánea, la discriminación impartida por la sociedad ´´blanca´´ y mestiza hacia la sociedad indígena latinoamericana, con una propuesta estética empático-solidaria. Enfocándose concretamente en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador. La discriminación contra las comunidades indígenas es un fenómeno histórico que persiste en Ecuador, dónde éstas enfrentan exclusión política, falta de reconocimiento de sus derechos y acceso limitado a oportunidades. En Cuenca, la discriminación hacia las comunidades indígenas también está presente, a pesar de avances sociales, siguen luchando por su integración y reconocimiento. La escena representada en el mural, muestra a una vendedora ambulante de frutas, personajes que se encuentran en los alrededores del casco histórico de Cuenca. Estas personas suelen enfrentar persecución por parte de las autoridades, que usan la informalidad de su trabajo como excusa para maltratarlos y despojarlos de sus pertenencias. Este mural busca cuestionar a las autoridades y a la sociedad que discrimina a la comunidad indígena, además resaltar y enaltecer la figura y el contexto indígena, promoviendo así la reflexión sobre nuestras raíces andinas e indígenas.
