Abstract

Melanic pigmentations of the oral mucosa are lesions that produce a change in coloration of the mucosa, present different clinical forms, and varied colors may be benign or malignant. Some lesions are related to pathological alterations, including syndromes and neoplasms. The purpose of the study is to review the scientific literature on endogenous pathological oral pigmentations, describe the lesions, and know their epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and pathogenesis, being these important tools so that the professional in oral health can establish a correct diagnosis
