Relación entre frecuencia de caries dental en escolares y nivel de conocimiento de sus madres en salud oral en la Unidad Educativa Fe y Alegría. Cuenca 2014-2015

Abstract

The aim of this study was, “Determinate the relationship between frequency of dental caries in students and the level of knowledge of their mothers about oral health in the Unidad Educativa Fe y Alegría. Cuenca 2014-2015". The group of this study included 113 students and their mothers. The students were examinated to determine the frequency of dental caries and their mothers completed a survey to establish their knowledge about oral health. In this context, the mothers with a low knowledge of oral health don´t use appropriate measures to prevent dental caries, and they aren’t involved in their children healthy habits. Therefore, these children represent a susceptible group of greater frequency to develop dental caries, because in this age children depend the most of the time of their mothers. The study in the Unidad Educativa Fe y Alegría revealed that exist a statistically significant relationship p= 0.000 between the frequency of dental caries in students and the level of their mother´s knowledge about oral health. The frequency of dental caries in students was 92.9 %, the same level of frequency of dental caries obtained through the CPOD index, and it was: low (32.7%), medium (34.5%) and high (32.7%). The knwoledge of the surveyed mothers related with oral health was: high (32.7%), medium (43.4%) and low (23.9%)
