Abstract
The topic of the patrimonial architecture of Cuenca-Ecuador is analyzed from the Latin American present social tensions which question the neoliberal visions and positions about the tangible patrimony. The notion about
the “Historic Center”, which is discussed under the light of the archeological discoveries and recent patrimonial arguments, leads us to prefer the category of Historic City. The vernacular, indigenous and mestizo are proposed as central values of the tangible patrimony from a theoretical-historical view that argues its pertinence.
Resumen
El tema de la arquitectura patrimonial de Cuenca–Ecuador se lo analiza desde las actuales tensiones sociales de América Latina que ponen en entredicho la visión y posiciones del neoliberalismo acerca del patrimonio tangible. Se discute la noción al uso del “Centro Histórico” que a la luz de los descubrimientos arqueológicos y recientes argumentaciones patrimoniales, nos llevan a preferir la categoría de Ciudad Histórica. Se propone lo vernáculo, indígena y mestizo como un valor central de lo patrimonial tangible, a partir de una visión teórico-histórica que argumenta su pertinencia.
