Propuesta artística gore sobre la Caza de Brujas como constructo iconográfico contemporáneo sobre un problema histórico femenino

Abstract

The Witch Hunt was a period of collective hysteria driven by the Holy Inquisition; a tribunal created by the Catholic Church to execute women accused of heresy. However, beyond the religious sphere, it was a time of patriarchal abuse where the stigma of "witch" was used as a tool to punish female sexuality. This artistic research proposes an iconographic subversion that questions the witch hunt as a historical issue affecting women. Through the analysis of texts such as the Malleus Maleficarum, and studies of religious iconography, it became evident how the "witch" stigma functioned as a strategy of domination. The result is an installation artwork with Mary Magdalene as the protagonist that evokes stained glass windows and creates a space reminiscent of the sacred. The piece contributes to the dialogue between history, gender, and contemporary art, addressing themes of oppression still present in today's society while reflecting on the Church's control over women. Through this thesis, I aim to reframe the concept of "witch" as a symbol of emancipation, make visible female resistance, and give voice to those women who were unable to raise theirs, honoring the memory of those who perished at the stake.
