Perfil de salud y bienestar del cuidador del paciente pediátrico con enfermedad crónica atendido en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga de enero a diciembre del 2017

Abstract

Objective: To determine the perception of health and well-being of the caregiver of the pediatric patient with chronic disease attended at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital from January to December 2017.

Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the area of pediatric clinical hospitalization of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in the city of Cuenca. The study population included 89 caregivers of patients with chronic disease, to whom it was applied the SF-36 Health Questionnaire

Results: The mean age of the patients with chronic disease was 7.2 years (SD 4.2) with a predominance of cardiac disorders 27%. 97.8% of the caregivers were women with an average age of 37.4 years (SD 9.6), married 78.7%, housewives 46.1%, with secondary education level 55.1%, that coexist within a nuclear family 82%, with an average monthly income of 697.7 dollars (DE 339.2). 77.1% of caregivers perceive that their health and well-being are good. Regarding the dimensions evaluated, the highest averages were for physical function 94.3% and body pain 95.67%; the lowest averages corresponded to vitality 67.3% and general health 66.6%.

Conclusions: It was found that the care of patients with chronic disease affects the health and welfare of their caregivers in a low percentage, despite which, the caregiver perceived that his health in general was good.
