Abstract
Gallery of popular characters from Cuenca (Ecuador), contemporaryized aesthetically with the
language of pop art, has its starting point in the importance of rescuing and preserving the
popular memory, which surrounds the city of Cuenca, in order to increase its historical-social
value. An attempt is made to recall some of the popular characters that at a certain moment left
a mark for their occurrences and originality in the city, being the axis that gives rein to this work.
In conclusion, this artistic exhibition has to contribute to the rescue of the memory of popular
characters, which is transmitted through a symbiosis of techniques and stylistic currents that are
compatible with an accelerated society and continuous change.
Resumen
Galería de personajes populares de Cuenca (Ecuador), contemporaneizada estéticamente con
el lenguaje del pop art, tiene su punto de partida en la importancia de rescatar y preservar la
memoria popular, que circunda la ciudad de Cuenca, con el fin de incrementar su valor
histórico-social. Se intenta rememorar algunos de los personajes populares que en un
determinado momento dejaron una huella por sus ocurrencias y originalidad en la ciudad,
siendo el eje que da rienda a este trabajo. En conclusión, esta muestra artística ha de contribuir
con el rescate de la memoria de personajes populares, que se transmite a través de una
simbiosis de técnicas y corrientes estilísticas que son compatibles con una sociedad acelerada
y continuo cambio.
