Prevalencia de pérdida dental prematura en dentición permanente; primer molar permanente de alumnos entre 6 y 12 años de la Escuela Abdón Calderón, de la parroquia Turi del Cantón Cuenca 2013 – 2014.

Abstract

The first permanent molars play a key role in the development and maintenance of proper dental occlusion. The premature loss of these teeth develops a traumatic occlusion that will produce changes in muscle activity, decreased chewing pattern, extrusion and rotation of teeth next to the area. Objective: determine the premature loss of the first permanent molar in children 6 to 12 years of school Abdón Calderón of the Turi parish. Methods: An observational, descriptive study was conducted in children from 6 to 12 years, with the aim of knowing the premature loss of the first permanent molar. The sample consisted of 160 pupils, boys and girls. The variables studied were age, gender, and first permanent molar. Results: Of all patients, 83 (51.9%) were male and 77 (48.1%) were female. The first permanent molar was lost more frequently was the first molar lower right with 34.8% of lost pieces. The impact of gender on the loss of the first permanent molar was not statistically significant; while the age variable had a statistically significant effect, the first permanent major loss at 10 years old molar, with 74% of missing teeth was observed. Conclusion: The first permanent molars, in this group of children, had a prevalence of 3.6% loss.
