Percepciones de estudiantes de educación básica media sobre la presencia de estereotipos de género

Abstract

Gender stereotypes promote inequalities, discrimination and prejudices that limit the comprehensive development of students. However, research in this regard is scarce in our context. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to determine the perceptions of seventh-year Basic Education students regarding the presence of gender stereotypes in a rural school. The methodology used was the qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, the instruments to collect information were semi-structured interviews and a focus group, the interviews were carried out in person and the focus group virtually through the Zoom platform. The participants were 13 students from a school located in the Cuenca canton, who were studying the seventh year of Basic Education. Regarding the research findings, the main ones were, first, the presence of gender stereotypes among seventh-grade students, which is reflected in their perception of gender and how this concept is socially constructed in the school environment. And in the second finding, the factors that influence the perceptions of the students were found, among them we can mention culture, family and school.
