Abstract
The present work, titled Syrinx: The Flute and the Pictorial Imagery of Claude Debussy's Literary World, analyzes the connection between music and mythology in the solo flute piece Syrinx. Structured into three chapters, it explores Debussy's life and work, highlighting his innovations in musical impressionism and the influence of writer Gabriel Mourey. Analytical tools, such as Agawu's musical topics, are employed to identify stylistic and narrative elements linked to symbolism and the myth of Pan and Syrinx. Additionally, a performance proposal is presented with technical and expressive recommendations to address the specific challenges of the piece, emphasizing its significance as a key work in the flute repertoire and its ability to evoke a mythological narrative through sound and stylistic resources.
Resumen
El presente trabajo, titulado Syrinx: La flauta y la imaginería pictórica del mundo literario de Claude Debussy, analiza la conexión entre la música y la mitología en la obra Syrinx para flauta sola. Estructurado en tres capítulos, aborda la vida y obra de Debussy, destacando sus innovaciones en el impresionismo musical y la influencia del escritor Gabriel Mourey. Se emplean herramientas analíticas como los tópicos musicales de Agawu para identificar elementos estilísticos y narrativos vinculados al simbolismo y al mito de Pan y Syrinx. Además, se presenta una propuesta interpretativa con recomendaciones técnicas y expresivas para los desafíos específicos de la obra, resaltando su importancia como pieza clave del repertorio flautístico y su capacidad para evocar una narrativa mitológica a través de recursos sonoros y estilísticos.
