Although afforestation is an essential component to improve environmental quality and urban thermal habitability, there is a few quantitative information on the impact of the selection of species in combination with morphological and climatic characteristics of the site. This work approach the incidence of two species of tree alignment on the thermal behavior of two adapted urban schemes: linear organic grid and organic grid with Cul-de-Sac. The forestry species -White mulberry and China berry tree- present similar characteristics and differ in their solar permeability (14.53% and 19.79%). Using the ENVI-met software, the different cases were simulated by adjusting the theoretical model to a real monitored case. The results show differences in the maximum temperatures greater than 4°C between the species studied in the linear organic grid and not very significant differences in the organic Cul-de-Sac grid. This research will collaborate in the selection and design of proposals for a sustainable urban development in the hillsides of Mendoza, Argentina.

La arquitectura de Ernesto de Sola en El Salvador: del historicismo a la modernidad
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, 2022-01-19) Ferrufino, Carlos
Ernesto de Sola was one of the first Central American architects of the 20th century. The review of his work illustrates the consolidation of modernity in El Salvador. This paper analyzes his designs through categories as environmental adaptation and local interpretation of international languages and compares it to Latin American architecture. This research reviews multiple buildings, by means of drawings, plans, and photographs, organized in three moments: neocolonial, Art Deco, and modern, from which it is possible to extract the essential characteristics of De Sola´s oeuvre: typological diversity, use of multiple architectural languages, simplification of ornamentation, structural rationalism, and adaptation to local environmental conditions. Some gaps are also evident: absence of urban planning approaches, lack of plastic integration, and technological insufficiencies restraining formal exploration. All these remain challenges for the current practice of architecture in El Salvador.

Historical construction and architectural treatises are a fundamental source of information. They tell us the how and why of construction systems in recent centuries. They have been the teaching texts of architects since the 16th century. The foundation is one of those elements. It is of interest to know its constructive origin. The objective of this work is to know more specifically how to approach foundations in problem soils. For this purpose, the twelve historical treatises on construction in Spanish that deal in their text with aspects related to the design and execution of foundations have been analyzed. Aspects related to the foundation and its application in problem soils have been extracted. They have been ordered and analyzed, and it has been possible to conclude the references that are antecedents of current soil treatment techniques, as well as techniques for application in foundation undercuts.

Ciudad modelo AUDI. ¿Un megaproyecto fallido?
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, 2022-01-19) Espinosa Flores, Adriana Soledad; Flores Lucero, María de Lourdes; Medina, Susana
Model City is a project that the government of the state of Puebla built to strengthen the industrial development of the new AUDI’s auto parts plant in Mexico. Today it’s said that it’s a failed project because it’s been habited only 15% of its total capacity. But to know if this project is a failure, we have made an evaluation that, for this case, was carried out through an adaptation of the methodology proposed by Saltalamacchia and Zicardi, who evaluate the performance of the local government. For this study case, the intention of evaluating the performance of the agency is based on the urban results of the Model City project, based on interviews, analysis of satellite images, urban regulations, and visits to the Model City, with the intention of being able to appreciate if the urban development of the city is in a process of consolidation, or in truth it is the announcement of a project in decline.
