Item Charles Dickens in America: Martin Chuzzlewit and His offensive criticism Against America, In 1842(2013) Mora Ortega, Lourdes Paola; Ochoa Maldonado, Genner; Walters, CarlThis present work is an analysis of Charles Dickens’s offensive criticism against America in 1842, in his novel Martin Chuzzlewit. The main character, young Martin Chuzzlewit travels to America and during his stay he depicts the culture, society and habits of the people of America offensively.The purpose of this study is to determine the reasons that lead Dickens to portray America in such way in his novel. This thesis, first of all, presents some notes about Dickens’s life: childhood, adulthood, and death. Next, Charles’ style of writing is introduced. This section contains descriptions of the methods and techniques he used to create his characters, plots, and settings. Following this, a brief analysis and a summary of the novel is provided. In addition, an exploration of the chapters of the novel which contain the criticism is presented. Finally, this thesis offers a comparison between some of the historical and cultural realities of America during the mid-19th century and Charles Dickens’ description.Item “From Dracula to “True Blood”(2013) Sánchez Mendieta, Francisco Javier; Youman, KatherineItem Historical fiction as seen in the novelone thousand white womenby Jim Fergus(2013) Uzhca Caguana, Silvia Alexandra; Youman, KatherineThis thesis proposes to study how Jim Fergus, the author of the novel One Thousand White Women combines historical facts with fictional characters and plots to create a new novel of the category, historical novel. It will be interesting to investigate and point out which of the elements of the novel are historical, and fictional. Therefore, the objective of the thesis is to analyze how the author has created this interesting combination of reality and fiction in his work. The most original factor of this particular novel is the information that the author gives concerning the treatment of women in the Native American tribes in the past. The information is based on fact. In this thesis three ideas will be developed. First, to know about the type of novel called historical fiction. Second, To analyze Jim Fergus` novel, One Thousand White Women, with respect to its elements of fiction and history. Third, to describe the Cheyenne way of life and treatment that the Cheyennes gave to the women of their tribes, and to show the inferior status relegated to the Cheyenne women compared to the status of the men.
