Item Análisis de la siniestralidad y metodología para la identificación de tramos de concentración de accidentes de tránsito en la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-09-19) Gavilanes Barahona, Héctor Fernando; Correa Barahona, Diego EstuardoThe adequate identification of Traffic Accident Concentration Points (PCAT) is of great importance for cities. One of the most recommended methods for identifying these points is the Empirical Bayesian Method (MEB), which is known to be statistically superior to conventional methods, since it contemplates statistical phenomena typical of random variables, as is the case from the regression to the mean. In the present study, the MEB was applied to the most conflictive intersections identified by processing the accident data of the city of Cuenca registered by the Municipal Public Company of Mobility, Transit and Transportation of Cuenca (EMOV EP) in the period 2016 – 2021. The analysis of results indicates that the vehicles involved, 63.76% are private vehicles, 19.37% are motorcycles and the other types of vehicles have a value of less than 5%. Among the most common causes are disrespecting traffic signs 21.05%, influence of alcohol 19.39% and neglect of traffic conditions 18.68%; being the year with the highest accident rate 2018. From the application of the MEB, it was determined that the intersections with the highest probability of occurrence of accidents are: Av. de las Américas and Calle Turuhuaico with 99.64%, Av. de las Américas and Av. España with 43.69%, Av. de las Américas and Av. Octavio Chacón Moscoso with 27.11%, Av. de las Américas and Av. Remigio Crespo with 27.01%, Av. Héroes de Verdeloma and Av. Gil Ramirez Dávalos with 20.44%, Av. las Américas and Av. Abelardo J. Andrade with 15.52%. The proper identification of these PCAT through the proposed method will be of great help to the Institutions that manage mobility and road safety in the city.
