Item Características de depresión en la población LGBTI de la ciudad de Cuenca. 2017(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-12) Defas Sani, Valeria Fernanda; Ormaza Larriva, Daniela Betsabe; Rodas Mosquera, Juan Enrique; Mosquera Vallejo, Lorena ElizabethIntroduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 300 million people in the world live with depression, being the main cause of health problems and disability. Objective: To determine the characteristics of depression in the LGBTI population of the city of Cuenca. 2017. Method: It is a descriptive study made in 93 people identified within the LGBTI population of the city of Cuenca. The Hamilton Test was applied to assess depression and a survey to state the demographic characteristics of the population. Microsoft Excel 2016 and IBM SPSS Stadistics version 21 were used to process the information, and as statistical measures frequencies and percentages were used.. Results: The 59.14% reported that they are men according to their biological sex, a 39.79% are women and 1.07% are intersexual, the most frequent age group was between 18 and 27 years with 79.56%, sexual orientation The most representative were homosexuals with 68.9%, in the variable of sexual identity the cisgender occupied 90.32%. Something important is that 64.6% present some degree of depression, 19.4% present moderate and severe depression, 10.8% present very severe depression. A 71% have suffered homophobia and discrimination, 30.1% have been victims of violence and 73.1% have suffered harassment because of their orientation sexual identity. Finally the 23.7% try suicide. Conclusion: More than half of the studied population has some degree of depression highlighting that 10.8% present very severe depression.
